Farm

MY IMAGE(S):

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Title: Farm
Year Created:
Medium: Oil
Surface: Board
Dimension: 16x20
Allow digital alterations?: Yes!

MY COMMENTS:
Just drove north through Pennsylvania Dutch country, barns everywhere. I still need to add an Amish Buggy near the barn, and a clothesline, when things dry a bit. Also the grass needs a darker glaze.

MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
Whatever

Re: Farm

Wow, You really got some crisp details & lines on the buildings, and the feeling of a bright sun angle is very good..
Maybe a shadow from imagined tree coming across the foreground edge or slightly darken fg as you mentioned.
The leading dark cloud edges could use some final softening/shaping..

Re: Farm

Very nice. Your self-critique is on the mark. But I ask: Even given the low vantage point, is the arc of the silo's top actually that curved? I mean, where the dome meets the cylinder.

Re: Farm

This is detailed on the buildings. Maybe take the silo out? There is a big mass of green, maybe separate the sides more? Good sky. Good grass texture.

Re: Farm

nope
i think there are two tiny culprits, the bottom centre of the white needs to come down a a tiny titch more (and or the outer white lower edge tips raised slightly) ... and the hint of stripe below it in the blue section on the lighter side is wonky, but more in line to being 'right' in the centre.
also, whilst i'm in pick mode - check the negative space next to the dome edges (the bright side is more vertically straight than the left).

guesswork tho, never having seen your reference

and ya know, i wouldn't be so blasted particular if you weren't such a fine, detailed painter

Re: Farm

They're buggy tracks, and besides, the road needs one more coat. I'm going to scumble it when it's bone dry, which will mostly obliterate the tracks.

Re: Farm

DEFINITELY getting there! The foreground shadow is important. I also see that you did some work on the silo, among other things.

As for the foreground shadow: Purists might wonder what caused it. I surmise that the viewer is at the gate of the road, and that there is a hedgerow along the fence line.

Re: Farm

Very cool being bold and adding shadow and completely changing the effect.
