Quick Dry Cafe - November 2017

Happy November. Don't eat all that candy at once.

I am pissed. My PhD student came to me and complained that I had not filled her in on the fact that another student in the lab (a Master's student) is working on the protein that her PhD dissertation will be on. She told me that I should have informed her of it so she can have input into what this student does and she does not want her on any of the papers that will be published. I told her she doesn't need to have any input in to this students activity and that she was being petty and jealous. I further iterated that the student is learning techniques not doing a specific project.

Where I might have once off loaded her to this PhD student, once she was trained, now I will make better use for this student with my other projects.

Happy November, Lady C. I didn't get any candy, as Susie and I gave it all away. I however did get some jerky and a Slim Jim.

I am so glad that I do not run an office any more and have to supervise employees. That will sour you on human nature faster than anything I know of.

We didn’t have a single trick or treater. Now I have to eat the leftover candy. Drat!

I like the managing of students and staff. Most are good without attitudes but this one has entitlement issues due to her cast up bringing.

As for t&t'ers, don't know how many rang the door bell. We went out to dinner as we always do.

Carol - What do you teach/research? My daughter had some interesting stories when she was getting her PhD & working in a lab as a grad. student.

bluefish - I'm jealous of your night at the play/musical! I've heard it's a great show - love Carole King's music. Yes, very sad act of terrorism in NYC yesterday.

Cold & blustery day in PA - November has arrived.

We didn't have a single trick or treater either, but then we never do in this community. All old people and the gates are closed, LOL Jon still buys candy though, his excuse is "we might have someone" and then he eats all the candy. It is actually his excuse for buying candy to eat.

I also am glad I am not working anymore... probably a good chance of getting fired for not holding my temper.

Lucky you. I remember having to referee a fight between two of my office staff about the thermostat. One was too hot, always, the other too cold, ditto. I finally had to put a lockbox on the thermostat to keep one or the other from changing it and the resultant screaming match. I also had an assistant take bribes from patients to stop recording their correct weight. Ai, yai, yai!

From what we learned last month, our friend Bill is being managed very well.

Heh, well, you can't say I didn't know what I was getting into. Her mom told me she was bossy as a little girl.

Bill....I thought of you, with a BIG smile, when I was in NYC.....passed a 'Cole-Haan' store window, with those comfortable shoes!

Thanks for the thought, blue. Susie still won't admit anything about them. I guess they are still in my closet, though I have looked repeatedly!
