Is ebay a good place to sell originals?

Hey there! I am trying out ebay to sell my original oil paintings. I am going to experiment and see if I get any bites. if ebay doesn't work out, what would you recommend?

Also I think next time I might have to sell my oil paintings for a bit higher since I might be low balling myself here.

Do you like ebay? have you successfully sold any paintings on there?

go to ebay, go to the category you would be listed under, go to "ending soonest" and I think you'll find nothing sells.

I always search sold listings to see what really sells.

It doesn't work for what I sell now, but in the past I did fine with other kinds of art.

Give Ebay a try!
Use keywords, that are relevant, for your title line.
Be sure to use the words "original" and "painting" in your title line.
And, of course, use other keywords that pertain to the subject of your paintings.

If your paintings don't sell the first time you list them, relist them.

Re: Is ebay a good place to sell originals?

I have a store on Ebay now. I sell mostly 9 x 12 and smaller paintings and they do very well. I started just listing things to see how things went, and then they offered me a free trial of their store for 3 months, so I did it and I have found the sales went WAY up with a store. They must do promotions for people with stores. I suddenly had a lot of "watchers" - etc. that turned into buyers.

That is wonderful news!
Could you provide us with a link to your Ebay store?
Thanks!

I haven't used eBay to sell my works.
But I would recommend you to connect with online art galleries which might be interested in your work. Art Galleries target specific audience which helps to close some deals in no time.

Re: Is ebay a good place to sell originals?

Ebay can be very good for sales, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you are mentally very tough and are very astute. Selling art on Ebay will humiliate you, wound you, push your self belief to the limit. And then there's the buyers, mostly generous, warm and appreciative, but some can also do all of the above to you. Also don't be naive, opening an Ebay account and sticking some paintings up for sale WILL result in no sales. You need to learn to understand how Ebay works, you will need a good strategy, you will need to work out a realistic cost of p&p etc. etc. So don't get your confidence knocked by jumping in feet first and certainly don't try and sell your favourite paintings there, you will get your fingers burnt. If you decide to give it a go, a good idea would be to find the artists who sell on a regular basis. Enter: Original Oil Painting into the search and select 'Most Bids' from the drop down menu. This should reveal a few artists who are selling well. Follow them and study their business model, their successful subjects etc.

Re: Is ebay a good place to sell originals?

Sorry I just got back here and saw your post
Here’s the link to my store. https://www.ebay.com/str/Fine+Art+by+Bunny+Griffeth/

If you lower your price and make a couple of sales in one week they start to market you more, which leads to more sales.

It gives me a lot of personal satisfaction to have so many happy customers. Yes you may run into a few bad ones but they’re few and far between.
