Scatdaddy

I am heartbroken to say that our dear friend, Scatdaddy (Jim) has passed away. He learned that he had advanced stomach cancer and passed away just three days after he found out. He was a great artist and a real cowboy in so many ways. He was always encouraging people in their art, and always able to make people smile. I've collected a few of his wonderful drawings to share here, as I believe they are worth seeing once more. He will be greatly missed.

Re: Scatdaddy

Thank you Jenna, I feel like I've lost an old friend. I never met him in person, but I believe that would have been the experience of a lifetime. Here is the drawing he did for me for the 2013 art swap from the SW art thread. Jim, you will be so sorely missed! RIP my friend...

And a Picture of Jim -

Re: Scatdaddy

His love of animals and kids is very obvious. Rest in Peace, Jim.

Re: Scatdaddy

Jenna, thanks for doing this. Scatdaddy was very special. I will get up a photo of the drawings that I have. They make me smile. Warm and sharing with us. Great sense of humor. I was wondering about him the other day. Sigh...

Re: Scatdaddy

He was my friend. I will miss him and his sense of humor. I know he is fine, with the Lord now....

I am lucky enough to have the original drawing of the horse peaking around the tree trunk posted above...proudly hanging in my living room. The photos of his drawings dont show their real life quality.

I did this painting for him and sent it to him as a gift several years back. It was from a photo of him getting on a horse he was training for the first time. Titled "Test Drive", 11 x 14 pastel

Re: Scatdaddy

Ron, you're very fortunate to have the piece of the horse peering around the tree. I love that one. When I first saw it I sent Jim a private message about it. It is excellent, as was all of his work.

Jim will be missed.

Re: Scatdaddy

OMG, Ron - I remember that original photo, that was his palomino filly he was breaking. I was so impressed with him, his age, and still breaking colts. He is, and always will be one of my heros. I grew up wanting to break and train horses; I got to do it with just one. He is who I wanted to be, only I'm in a girl's skin. Thank you for this, I did not know you painted it. How cool. I know he loved it.

Re: Scatdaddy

It's wonderful to see these artworks made by (and also for) Jim. And thank you, Kathy, for the wonderful photo of Jim - I remember seeing it during one of our art swaps. Ron, your painting of him is extraordinary, and I, too, remember the photo. It's a beautiful painting that truly captures his essence and work in life. The peeking colt drawing was one of my favorites by Jim. He once sent me a print of it on a Christmas card. It is beautiful.

Aw, so sad to read this. I don't seem to get here too often anymore, but Scatdaddy I do remember. Loved his work, but than, I love everything western.
RIP Jim

Re: Scatdaddy

I haven't been active on WC! for quite a while. Back when I was, I remember Jim as an encouraging soul. We enjoyed trading jokes and seeing new work. We participated in a Christmas Swap in 2011 and this is the drawing I got in exchange for an original watercolor. I cherish this drawing.
