Photos vs Ink Jet

I wonder what your thoughts are on photographic prints - chemical process on Fuji Crystal Archival Paper - in otherwords "photos" vs ink jet prints.

A lot of advances have been made in photo printing as has ink jet printing. As far as archival properties, there are tests - if i'm reading the data right- that says photos WITH uv coating, under normal home use conditions, last as long (maybe longer) than ink jet. i would be interested in any controlled tests comparing the two - or any other thought comparing the two... thxs.

Re: Photos vs Ink Jet

Hi there TheBongolian

I guess I should have answered this post long ago. Apologies.

It's a complicated subject and depends on the ink, paper, storage conditions, etc. etc. The de-facto expert is generally considered to be Wilhelm Research (see http://www.wilhelm-research.com/ ). There is a lot of info on their website, but it normally only serves to further confuse. Should you have specific questions he does often provide answers on the printing forum of Luminous Landscape (see http://forum.luminous-landscape.com/index.php?board=6.0 ).

Good luck!

regards - Peter
