Hails from Australia
The Streets of Sydney

Have you seen the old man in the closed down market
Picking up the papers with his worn out shoes
In his eyes you see no pride and hanging loosely at his side
Yesterdays paper, telling yesterdays news
So how can you tell me you're lonely
And say for you that the sun don't shine
Let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of Sydney
I'll show you something to make you change your mind

(Ralph McTell - slightly misquoted)

Re: The Streets of Sydney

Mark,

I love the first, with its various lines and angles (that are somewhat hard to reconcile, in a positive way).

And the next four are - as you noted elsewhere - quite poignant.

Excellent work.

Re: The Streets of Sydney

Dave, this thread was based upon English singer/songwriter Ralph McTell's hit ballad, "The Streets of London" in which I saw a parallel in the streets of Sydney.

The descending escalator is a metaphor representing the descent into bereftness. The despair of the homeless reminded me of how much I can be thankful for and the Photoshopped lens-blurred Central Station is a kind of misty-eyed departure point from what I had just observed.
