Chattahoochee Wetlands sketch C&C welcome X

Thanks for looking.

8.5 X 11 sketch of wetlands near the Chattahoochee River in Roswell, GA. Acrylic on unstretched canvas.

Palette is hansa yellow medium, quinacridone magenta, phthalo green, phthalo blue, zinc white and ti. white. Painted with 5/8 in brush, so details are sketchy in places. Painted this to check overall design and color harmony.

Photo is a little low on contrast, mea culpa.

Thoughts, C&C welcome.

This is a very nice composition. My eye moves through the painting to the distant trees. Great use of greens. Very pleasing. I like the simplicity with which you handled the field and trees and I think you could handle the water in the same manner. So rather than having the purple in front, do it all in blue with a gradation of mid-dark to light as it moves into the distance. I think you could also get rid of the lavender shape in the middle of the blue area. The tree reflections could also be neutralized a bit. The left corner seems a bit busy - maybe get rid of some of that detail? But, overall, I think you've created a very nice landscape.

I like the way that water curves out to the edge and then back into the heart of the painting. I think it effectively draws the viewer into the painting. Gary

Aspenman, thank you.

pprender, yep the water is an issue. Problem is it was muddy on the day, therefore brown. I want to show the water as dirty, but it's hard to get people to relate to brown water. So I was fooling around with alternate colors. We'll see how it comes out on the prime time painting.

Thank you, Gary. That's what drew me to the scene.

cliff: really nice. bring up your lightest lights. Check this in black and white if you can. Most of your values seem "middle" value?
Well painted and great colors.

Very good use of a nearly-CMYK pallete.

Pinguino, thank you. I didn't think of it that way until you mentioned it. Most of the pigment in the painting is Hansa yellow medium.

I am intrigued by this lovely painting, lots to gaze upon and I find the purple makes a statement that makes this a modern contemporary painting.

Nicely done . . . I like the colour statement as well, particularly the purple yellow contrasts
