Chattahoochee Wetlands - sketch C&C welcome and eagerly sought X

A little bit more conventional than the last study. Wetlands near the Chattahoochee River with Autumn approaching.

8.5 X 11 in. on unstretched canvas. Actually stretched a bit. When I apply gesso to it it pulls pretty taut. Used a 5/8 in. flat brush, so the detail is pretty sketchy in places.

Hansa yellow medium in mass quanitities, quinacridone magenta, phthalo green, phthalo blue, zinc white and, of course, ti. white. All high chroma but tractable IMO.

Very interesting, Cliff. Is that supposed to be an oil slick on the surface of the water, or am I overreading? Nice color composition

Thanks, Bill. Nope, that's an experiment. The water is muddy, hence sort of an orange-brown. It's hard to get people to relate to brown water, so trying other avenues.

The blue patch should read as a reflection of the sky. Does it?

Yes, it does. It was the purple seemingly spreading into it that got me confused. I have a vivid memory of the oil seeping from the drowned fuel bunkers of the hulk of the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor. But that had yellow in it, as well as purple and blue.

Nice work, and I didn't think it looked like an oil slick lol.

I like it.
Are you still working on it?
If you are, the triangle of blue water is cool and the water above it also, any thoughts on making the upper water just a tad more connected, not completely by any means, it's more interesting with the spaces.
Or maybe just a tad larger on the upper water.
Just my 2 cents....with just that much value.

I think this is rather lovely and no oil slick either!

I think I'm agreeing with Dianna when I say I'd like to see a little more made of the bend in the river, upper left, to visually take the eye a little more to the centre.

Dianna, Maureen, thanks for taking the time. I'll try it the way you suggest and we'll see how it comes out.

This is really beautiful. I quite like the water surface.

Looks much like a watercolor. I would like to see more detail added. Nice colors and composition!

Carol, glad you like it.

Sheryl, there'll be a bit more detail in the full size work. Since this was mostly about colors and composition, your comment is very timely.

Gesso drying on a canvas at this very moment.
