****Daily Wash Thursday October 5 2017****

Evening all.....

And because nobody cares about NZ politics here this is the man who will decide our next government....he lost his seat and his party got only 7% of the vote...

Winston Peters, Uschi

No, Winston Peters, NZ First Party.
The K and Q refer to the two main parties - neither of them got enough seats to govern alone - and Winston has been referred to as the King or Queen maker.
He is a wily old fox...

This is Bill English, our current PM one of my first ones, a little heavy on the line....

Good morning all. Thanks for starting the Wash Lulu. Another fine caricature

A clear sky overnight so it will be chilly out there. Hopefully we will get an extra week of bowls this afternoon.

Art class this morning.

Re: ****Daily Wash Thursday October 5 2017****

Good morning Lulu, Rick, Geoff and Doug.

Sunny, but damp.
The hole diggers refuse to seat on the terrasse, concrete is too cold...
So, everybody is inside, snoring like engines, as if they hadn't slept all night.

This morning I have three chapters to finish of Wittgenstein's Philosophical Investigations. Extremely interesting. I particularly appreciated his theory on language games. He had slightly mentioned it on the Blue Book, and On Certainty, but he goes further on Philosophical Investigations.

I wil go to town to do some shopping, and sketching (I hope I will), this afternoon.
Tonight, Café Musiques, at the Gare de Coutellet (an ancient village train station transformed in cultural association). Each person takes 1 or 2 Cds they like, and shares with the others. All while talking, and having a drink. A nice way of discovering new, and sometimes not on the circuit, musics.
Edit - I will be taking Ghetto Tango HERE

Prince Igor's Rapsody HERE (allow it to 2:45, at least)

and, just in case,
Cantigas de Mulleres (songs in Galego - Spain) - This is my favorite song of the album (and Maruja Mallo's beautiful paintings): MIRABELLA

Lulu, great caricatures.

Nancy, thank you for your kind words when I was not well, the other day

Uschi, Char, Annie, Lulu , thank you, too.

Lulu, and Annie, for being you

Uschi, I like the way your eyes see some not so beautiful things.

JJ, I didn't even know Lip Plumpers existed (I never put make-up on), but it sounds tempting

Linda, it is funny. When I saw the photos of your new house, it looked so immense... I am astonished you lack place for shelves, as well as a room for your things.
How mistaking a photo can be, isn't it?

Lynn, show us your finished knitting, please.
Are reading a new of your historical books, nowadays?

Char, what is an instant pot? And what is the difference between it, and a normal cooking pot (other than "instant" )? Is that a pot that cooks under pression? Is that what it is?

I am glad you are going to see your doctor, Bill.

Have a nice day / evening / night dear washers.

Lip plumpers eh! In England to give someone a fat lip is to punch them in the face!

Just had mackerel on rye...makes a change from seedy toast.

Re: ****Daily Wash Thursday October 5 2017****

Geoff, you beat me to it! Fat lips.

Or you could go to a cosmetic clinic where they inject cells from a fish swim bladder into your lips, although probably is left over tripe, and only for thousands of dollars ... dont worry, the Botox takes away your frown of concern for another few hundreds. Thus you have full lips and no frown. Your credit card has run away in fright as its life is in danger.

Good evening all. Even Geoff.

Rick, you will have to lull someone to sleep. I've never known the ears to stay in one place for so long.

Lulu, I'd love to be able to do that with our pollies. No one cares about them either, even here.

Doug and Maria and all who follow

Edit Shadye, you have rafters and walls and skylights??

Re: ****Daily Wash Thursday October 5 2017****

Good Morning all,
It is 6:45 a.m. on a still dark morning in Oakwood, another nice day ahead according to the forecast.

The best laid plans of mice and men.... no polenta for dinner last night, Larry changed the menu so we'll have it on Saturday instead.

Off to the library today to replenish my stock of books to read. I worry when there isn't a stack on the floor by the closet in my Studio/Office. I usually have two going at the same time, and I'm down to one at the moment.

Shadye, The project is progressing nicely. Are you doing the work yourself or having it done?

Lulu, Interesting caricatures, bet they would enjoy having a copy of them because they aren't too distorted.

Maria, Sounds like an interesting event you are going to to share music and good fellowship.

Bill, Glad you are having your knee checked out and it turns out to be nothing to worry over.

to Doug, Geoff, Rick, Annie, and all who are on their way.

SYL,

Sylvia

Lulu, them and still fascinated how a little exaggeration can work so well.

Shady, looking good and WOW, skylights even I know you mentioned it at the beginning but I forgot, what kind of room is this to be??? P.S. really well built, unless it is a mall or a school nothing nowadays nothing here is built that well.

Got to run, to ALL and wishing everyone a great day.

Good day all,

The sun is shining on a cool, still morning. Life is good.
Ms. Feral has taken to her insulated box.

I'll see my therapist this morning.

Thanks, Sylvia, I hope it's easily repaired.

Maria, enjoy your music sharing tonight. Sounds like a pleasant evening.

Shady, progress!

Hi Doug, Geoff and Annie.

Must shower and have breakfast.
Bill

Re: ****Daily Wash Thursday October 5 2017****

Gooooooood morning Washers...back to my usual wake up time and the sprinkler is already set for a good soaking this morning. Cats fed and out. Dogs fed and back to bed already. The old one at my feet snoring away.

This Redgard water proofing membrane is something....it's bright pink, I'm talking florescent pink when you put it on...when it dries it is a deep red. Wife is going to have fun putting on makeup this morning getting ready for work as there is a decidedly red hue to everything in there for now.....

Shadye.....I'm curious about something in your picture posted. Is the ledger board (2x) supporting the upper ends of the roof rafters actually surface mounted on the brick veneer....and if it is, how did the anchor it back to the structural element of the wall or did they just anchor it to the brick veneer? I ask because brick veneers are usually not load bearing elements of the construction and quite often are not even tied back to the structural element of the wall. Brick ties are primarily for lateral loads (wind loads) stability, not vertical weight bearing loads...and to make it worse it looks like the ledger board is at the top of the break veneer which would be the weakest section of the wall.......I would ask the contractor exactly how the load from the upper end of the rafters is being supported and how it is being transferred to the structural wall behind the brick veneer. If he says the veneer will support it, you need a new contractor. The proper installation should have removed the upper brick courses allowing the header board to be structurally attached to the structural element (load bearing) of the wall. This looks to be a quick construction method by someone who isn't all that versed in the transferring of loads in construction. You need to check it out with a Structural Engineer.

What is this "blue ears" thing.......is it contagious?

Time to move the sprinkler, eat some breakfast and get my posterior end in gear.

A good day/afternoon/evening to all.....be good, do good.

Steve.
