Dikdik in sepia

I'm fascinated by sepia and thought this dikdik would be a good subject. I painted the background with wcDrawing in graphite. From a pmp reference. 8x11.5 C+c welcome.

Re: Dikdik in sepia

I'll confess. I had no idea what a dikdik is and didn't know what to expect. It turns out he is a cute little fellow. With the way the background was painted and the drawing in graphite it creates an effect that is so pleasing it is hard to take your eyes off of it.

Re: Dikdik in sepia

Christel, I love sepia too, and he is a sweet little Dikdik. Saw a lot of these little animals when last in Africa. Well done.

Re: Dikdik in sepia

I like sepia drawings, too. The red/sepia drawings by the old masters always interest me.

Very good portrait of the little antelope. The texture of his coat is very good.

Re: Dikdik in sepia

I really enjoy these almost old-fashioned (in a lovely way) paintings in sepia. The gentleness of the colour suits the delicate nature of the little creature. This is lovely Christel.

Re: Dikdik in sepia

Christel, this is precious! I just adore the petite and timid nature of this animal, and it does work beautifully in sepia! Did you tint the paper yourself, or is this a toned paper? I recently started a pen and ink drawing on Stonehenge toned paper (I think I'm using the "Fawn" color) and am enjoying the feel of the warm tone. I was just curious what your paper choice was. You've done an extraordinary job with this!

Re: Dikdik in sepia

Thanks Phranque, Penny, Chammi and Jenna. I used Canson 180g/m2 drawing paper and gave the whole paper a wc wash. In some places where the white is showing, I used a hard rubber which works well in lifting the wc.
