Coffee is brewed. Fresh pastries, scones, timbits and bagels are out.

Re: Quick Dry Cafe -- October

Another weekend spent on the mainland helping younger son into his new apartment. Had a great supper at a Korean restaurant last night. I have missed Korean food for a few years since our local restaurant closed down.

- wondered if you meant 'titbit' - or across your side, 'tidbit'?

Blue - why do our Texan and Georgian friends need shoes?

We have the tail ends of storms from Canada and Hurricane Maria today - very strong winds that have blown the patio furniture around .......... I HATE wind so I'm hoping not to have to leave the house and get blown around!!!

Re: Quick Dry Cafe -- October

Maureen....ages ago, the Southern 'mammies' used to take the scrapes from the bread/corn muffins and go out the back door, to where the 'hounds' were and called out for them to hush by spooning off the scrapes and saying "hush puppies"......now a staple of Southern cusine and delicious.....

stationed in Georgia, during my military career, i learned all the local cultures and experienced wonderful cusine...

I'm sure Cliff can autheticate this fact!....

by the way 'lox' is salmon.....very popular in the NYC area!

Re: Quick Dry Cafe -- October

A hushpuppy is a small, savory, deep-fried ball made from cornmeal-based batter. Hushpuppies are frequently served as a side dish with seafood and other deep-fried foods. Wikipedia

Very tasty if you find someone who makes them right. Some places over cook them to tough, dark brown instead of nicely browned and some are just tasteless. But then some places can't cook fish either

Hush puppies? The Howard Johnson's in Cordele, GA used to make them with little bits of gator tail in them. Tastes like chicken.

Meanwhile, I'll take all the lox you can pile on my plate. Not as good as smoked lake trout out of lake Superior but it will have to do since the lampreys wiped out the lake trout.

*Scrapes the lox of his plate and takes Cliff's hushpuppies in its place.*

Yeah, I might even have a pair of those puppies if Susie hadn't declared them Fashion Abominations.

Timbits are middles of doughnuts. Instead of throwing the dough away, they get turned into little bites of doughnutty deliciousness.

They have so few calories (being only a doughnut hole) that you can eat a dozen guilt free.
