A circuitous path

Acrylic on canvas, 48" x 48"

The number of iterations this underwent was mind-boggling . Some just did not sit well on a "gut" level. Don't know if it was the palette (initially mostly yellow/red), or aggressive brushwork (an early version) or just my mood. This one is now sitting in the right place in my brain and I'm trying to decide whether to add more, reduce some or leave it alone. C&C always welcome. Thanks for viewing.

this is a very rich and visually pleasing work.

I like this but feel that the white deadens it somehow, I wonder what something a little warmer would do

Re: A circuitous path

Maybe adding gamboge would warm it up. You already started with yellow you said.

Thanks very much laf and Kay.
Interesting observation from both of you. Exploration of warmth was definitely part of the circuitous path
IRL, it is a bit warmer, because I started with yellow. Below is a small version of the pic posted above, next to one I took with my iPhone. Photos can be frustrating. The actual painting is almost smack in the middle of these two color wise. Warm(er), but without all that green.

I used a very (very) light wash of cadmium yellow around some of the edges and a few spots within and added the more striking bits of a pyrrole orange/napthol red mix with frayed hemp rope.
LMK if you think the Mama Bear version might be just right. I'm leaning that way.

Re: A circuitous path

Finally finished and varnished. This pic is pretty close to what it looks like IRL, other than slight sunlight glare in the center. Sides are now a little more robust, so they don't look washed out.
I'm thinking I might keep this one. It is relaxing.
