rain

A memory of being on the Isle of Skye and the rain was relentless. Yet within it all there was a light, yet nothing had any definition, It was summer almost night time yet nothing really got dark at all. 20 x 16 inches oil on canvas. Thanks for looking, Caroline.

Re: rain

It is believable as a deluge. If it was a vacation, it must have been a disappointment.

I lived in Bremerhaven for about 18 months with its long summer evenings. I see that Skye far north of that. It is easy to imagine sunlight at night.

Re: rain

Caroline: Very nice - Like the misty atmosphere and the subtle colors so well blended -

I noticed where Isle of Skye gets about 53" of precipitation per year; whereas we receive maybe 10" - Sure could have used some of that precipitation here this year with all the wildfires - We are just waiting for the snows to come and put the fires out -

Again, really nice painting

Re: rain

A lovely hazy softness with just enough detail to attract the eye - The atmospheric effect of 'light through rain' is beautifully translated in your unique style Caroline - Well Rendered !

Re: rain

Hi Gary, the Isle of Skye called The misty isle is well named for it's heavy rainfall and long days of mist and rain. The best memory I have is actually going to see it for the first time twenty five years ago on a bus with a friend who was an artist too. I took my border collie dog too though we had to hide him as dogs were not allowed on the buses and the driver took pity on us and let us all on the bus. The old bus travelled through mist until suddenly the mists lifted and the most amazing mountains seem to come out of the land at sharp angles and the sun blazed out. It is a place full of atmosphere and also a place to sometimes just wait for the sun to appear!

Wow Cliff that is praise indeed!

Many thanks Kay, I was going to work on it some more but felt the feel of the rain would then be changed into another kind of painting.

Re: rain

Hi Gordon, no shortage of rain on the misty isle! It has been a very mild summer here in the highlands and while there has been many rainy days there has been plenty of sunshine too. Glad you like the painting and hope the rains arrive for you too.

Hi Michael I was so tempted to carry on painting but realized that the mood was right left as it was. Many thanks for your comment.

Hi Derek just wandering aboot in the mists again! Many thanks for your comment.

Hi Arnie, we have had a few misty rainy days of late, yet late this morning the sun came out! Glad you like the painting and thank you for your comment.

Re: rain

It speaks of light and rain with the color and super soft work in edges! Rain during light is such a contradiction of nature, and rare.

Re: rain

Hi Ken, noticed yesterday we were driving through rain towards strong light. According to Carlson on a rainy day the sky is at it's brightest, more so than a blue sky day. Thank you for your comment.

Hi Lucy many thanks!

Hi Brad thank you, yes just enough mountain to add a bit of interest.

Re: rain

I love the richness of the blues in your sky, and the light below is very atmospheric. I've been in the mountains on Skye on a misty day, the way it is clear one minute and the everything disappears the next is remarkable. A beautiful place. I think you've really captured some of the essence of it here.
