Shadows

The Banff Springs Hotel in the Canadian Rockies is spectacular. It is hard to pass up this value-oriented scene. I am not afraid of darks, but they can be boring. I attempted to make the dark interesting with multiple underlying washes with different, brighter hues and the vertical walls I used heavy granulators to contrast with the shiny reflective floor. And, as usual, I tried to add the lonely woman figure. The painting is not quite so blue as the photo.

Arches 140#CP, 15 x 11 inches. W&N: Win Orange, Perylene maroon ,Paynes Gray, FUB, Permanent Magenta. DS: Sodalite, Hematite Burnt Scarlet.

From my photo which you may use.

I would appreciate C&C

My wife and I honeymooned there some 28 years ago. Wonderful place and you have done it justice.

Re: Shadows

I like how you took the warm browns and yellow colors of the photo and transformed it into a cooler color combination using the blues. Nice job.

Re: Shadows

Karl, your shiny floor is spectacular! I like the lone figure in this, it tells a story. What a beautiful building with all those windows. Well done.

Re: Shadows

The shadows just make this one glow! I think the dark area behind chandelier needs to be in there for balance.

This one really "pops"! I particularly like the shiny, sunlit floor.
