Re: wire sculpture ?

That's a very cute bird! I like his attitude!

I did some searching and found this site: http://www.whimsie.com/aluminum%20craft%20wire.html This site and some others I found say that aluminum is cheaper and a bit softer than copper. This site I listed sells both kinds of wire - you could buy some of each and test to see which one you like best. I've done that with oil-based clays to find the brand I prefer to work in. Good luck!

Re: wire sculpture ?

Always happy to help! You can order that kind of wire from any sculpture supply store. It's a good idea to check their websites and compare prices. Top suppliers are www.sculpt.com (The Compleat Sculptor), www.sculpturehouse.com (Sculpture House), Arizona Sculpture (www.arizonasculpture.com) - and you can find some aluminum wire at Hobby Lobby and Michael's as well as Dick Blick's and other stores. Floral wire is fun to play with too, and you end up with a green sculpture.

This little bird has attitude and I like it.

Jenna, over in the Southwest Forum does lots of wire sculptures. She might have an idea about resources

Re: wire sculpture ?

Cute birdie. Perhaps using aluminium wire for portions of a bird would look like white feathers on the bird. So you could use variances in wire colors for effect too. Just a random idea.

Re: wire sculpture ?

Hi,

some studies for a 3D version of a famous painting. Done last year as an assignment for school.

Soldering copper is not too difficult and gives you more freedom. Aluminium would be more difficult to join.

Magnet Wire is the lacquered industrial version. It should be easy to find, Ebay normally has plenty.

This piece is mains electrical cable with the insulation cut off. Free

ETA There is some bronze welding rod there too.

Best wishes...
