Giraffe

Hi everyone,

Here's one of my fairly recent wire sculptures. This giraffe is made with a bit of steel fencing wire at the base for stability and strength, and the rest is copper wire in several gauges. I decided to keep her embellishments to a minimum and let the forms speak. Her horns are a circular metal embellishment which I cut to shape for her slim horns. Her ears are wing-shaped embellishments. Her tail is a black chain, and so is her mane. Wired into her mane are several old hooks from hooks and eyes (such as those used in sewing). She measures 8.75 inches tall by 5 inches long by 2.5 inches wide. It was fun to make this piece. C&C welcome. Thanks for looking!

This is a delight! I love the use of the hooks in her mane.

Re: Giraffe

How original! I love it. You've even marked the knees and elbows, brilliant. The wings/ears are great, what imagination!

I think it is a good idea to keep the accesories at a minimum, but I miss the eyes, especially in the last photo where the giraffe is looking directly at me.

Re: Giraffe

Thanks so much, Christel.

Thank you, Kay. It took a lot of searching through my found items before I could decide what would work for the mane. I'm glad you like the end result.

Hi Agem. Thank you very much for your kind comments and thoughts! I can see what you mean about the eyes, however, I actually never do eyes in my sculptures unless the embellishment I'm using for the head happens to suggest them. Guess it's just my style. But I really appreciate your thoughts on this and will keep it in mind.

Thanks so much for the comments, fedetony!

Thanks, Dottie. I think this one took around 10 - 12 hours to complete.

Thank you, Chammi. I'm so glad you like this.

Thanks so very much, Kay!

Thanks, Shalese. I'm happy you like my sculpture.

Re: Giraffe

Hi Jena, I always love your funky sculptures and your Giraffe is up to your usual standard.
Unlike Agem I never miss the eyes, but thinking about the giraffe - all you would need are some false eyelashes. I do think that giraffes have gorgeous eyelashes.

Re: Giraffe

Thanks so much, Viv. I'm so glad you like her. She does not have a name now that you mention it, but if she did, it would be something elegant and stately, I'm sure.

Thank you, Barbra. Eyelashes, that would be a flirtatious and fun touch.

Re: Giraffe

Hi Lisa. Thanks so much! I'll be sure to check out your wire sculptures - I love seeing what people can do with wire! I guess where I post my work is just a personal preference...I almost always do animal sculptures, so I guess I automatically put them here in Animal and Wildlife forum. I'll head over to take a look at your wire work!
