3 Levels of Consciousness

Here's another piece for this fall's show in Indianapolis, this one is made from wire mesh and is 6 x 4 x 11 feet in dimension.

Here is a video of the sculpture to show a 360-degree view.

Re: 3 Levels of Consciousness

Wire mesh in and of itself makes an interesting medium, airy and soft looking.

Yes, it does. That is really the whole irony of the piece, that it is so airy and light compared to the more hard, weighty sculptures in the rest of the show but it's the largest thing in the room by far.

Wow, that first image blew me away. It's quite the impressive piece you've created there

I really like this one. Could it be painted without filling in the holes in the mesh? I'd like it in red, I think. It is light and airy looking, as SD said. I think paint might make it look less industrial, but I do love the transparency of it..

Re: 3 Levels of Consciousness

Thanks, Ms. Andrea!

Glad you like it, Lynda.... and I had the same idea about painting it!

I did some experiments with painting the mesh early on. It was not easy to do and the effect was less than good, IMO. The problem is that it goes to silhouette in front of anything brighter than itself, so you don't see a color necessarily. And the paint somewhat dulled down the shiny aspect which kept it bright and sparkly. The third issue, however, was the fact that it took so much paint to cover it and you still could not get the inside covered. Short of dipping the parts (which would require a huge container and a ton of paint) there's no way to effectively paint the thing once the parts are built.

Thanks for explaining about the paint. I do like it sparkly.
