WIP Lakeside Path

I just can't seem to slow down! Lots of squiggles here.

Re: WIP Lakeside Path

Are you a lover of Gigi Liverant, too?
This is awesome. You did it uniquely. The lights just dance in this painting, Lisa!

Did you do this with soft pastels? On what surface, what size? Is it a colored ground or under painted? Do you have any in progress photoss you took along the way you could share??

Your style is unique and quite exciting. Yes, tell us which paper you are using and the size. Curious minds want to know.

Re: WIP Lakeside Path

Thanks, artelahe! I had to look up Gigi, had never heard of her. I'm glad you mentioned her, cool work.

This was painted with a mix of mostly homemade and some Sennelier, Blick and Great American soft pastels on UART paper, I think it's 600 grit. I used an alcohol wash for an underpainting, but didn't coat the whole paper. It's around 28 x 32 inches.

I actually do have in progress pics of this piece, as I was testing a new method of mounting the large piece of paper to matboard.

Re: WIP Lakeside Path

It is a wonderful style playing with coulours to build a superb beautiful attractive painting. It is not really playing with colours but unusual but an expertly use of line, sketches of pastel.

Re: WIP Lakeside Path

Thanks for the progress shots, Lisa! You ended up with a large and beautifully dynamic painting. Those squiggles are your signature marks! If/when you frame this I'd love to see how it looks all dressed up.

Re: WIP Lakeside Path

Lisa, thank you for the progression. I have been trying to figure out how Gigi made her paintings because both they and yours grabbed me and have held me prisoner. These excite me. I have wanted to do something similar in a similar vein.

Here is Gigi's website

Re: WIP Lakeside Path

Hi Aly, usually the underpainting is much more colorful, just didn't happen to be this time.

Re: WIP Lakeside Path

I love this squiggly painting Lisa and I love the way you achieved it. I like to see how other artists begin a painting and yours is amazing! It looks a total mess (to me) until the last three pictures when it all makes sense and comes alive with light and movement. Stunning!
