Use to denote nudity/mature subject matter Draw This - Free Online Streaming Friday Evening Figure Drawing

Just wanted to put this out there in case anyone is interested.

DrawThis.com is in prelaunch and is allowing everyone to attend their online live stream figure drawing for free.

They stream live every Friday at 7pm PDT and it runs for 2 hours.
This service is similar to the Croquis Cafe, but live streaming.

I will be attending my first one tonight and I'll post what I do here afterward.
Anybody else attending could post here also, if it's OK with "The Higher Ups" .?

Below are the weblinks if you wish to attend.

I know its a little late notice, but we can always do it again next friday.

In case you miss it they also post a recorded version to their youtube channel.

Let me know what you guys think.

What a great model!

As far as my gestures, it was a mixed bag. It was just after midnight where I'm at when it finished and it shows on some of these.

Well here goes:

20 X 1 Minute Poses

4 Minute Break

10 X 2 Minute Poses

4 Minute Break

3 X 5 Minute Poses

4 Minute Break

2 X 10 Minute Pose

4 Minute Break

1 X 15 Minute Pose

Again if you missed it live you can participate using the recorded version on their YouTube channel.

Whew! Goodnight.

I had a look at the You Tube link and thought it pretty good but a challenge if you don't have a big screen. I have limited data download so doing the full session would cost me data. Still a good idea. I also see on their Face Book page they are a subscription site so I expect the free videos will stop?

I like your two minutes the best you got something working well with the gestures and marks. The one minutes are good too. Who are your influences in approaching the figure in this way?

This is golden. video format has an immersive feel, better than still photos. resolution is very fair. Thanks

Re: Draw This - Free Online Streaming Friday Evening Figure Drawing

Bill - Sorry I wasn't able to respond sooner.

Yes, they are currently free but at some point it looks like it will be a subscription service. No info yet on how much they will charge in the future.

I agree with you that my 2 and 1 minute gestures are stronger than the longer ones. I can even "feel it" while I'm drawing them. For the first 2 - 3 minutes everything flows so smoothly and quickly, almost effortlessly. Then everything suddenly slows to a crawl as I try to figure out what to do next. And it's around the 4 minute mark where I start to lose my confidence in the drawing.
Assuming this is lack of practice, I will start focusing on longer gesture drawings.

To answer your question about influences, I would have to say Vilppu. I've watched several of his videos on figure drawing.
I've focused on constructing the figure in order to be able to draw from imagination.... some day. lol.
With that said, my process isn't quite the same as Vilppu's but similar.

I've also been thinking of playing with more direct drawing rather than constructing the figure. I might start incorporating some of those into what I post.

Thanks

wjrmonkey - Glad you found it useful. This Friday I will be attending again and will start a post for anyone who attended to share what they did. That way we can learn how each of us solved the same problem. If you attend it would be great if you share.

Thanks

No worries Mike take your time I do.

Vilppu is concerned with training animation students is that where you want to go yourself? He was always saying analyze the figure don't copy it.

A good figure drawing teacher said to me "Lines have beginnings and ends and you have to look for them." and he put me onto Bridgman's Constructive Anatomy if you can work out what Bridgman is doing in his book you are well on the way to direct drawing. Bridgman didn't make this up by himself one of his teachers was Gerome who collaborated with Charles Bargue to produce the Drawing Course you can see these lines beginning and ending in part three of the book in the last 60 plates of poses. Although the poses are meant to be examples of good drawing outlines you can see the overlapping lines subtlety describing the underlying anatomy.

Stapleton Kearns writes about Ingres' overlapping lines.
http://stapletonkearns.blogspot.com....ing-lines.html

Bridgman being the anatomy teacher was used this idea of lines beginning and ending to great effect in describing the anatomy of the figure.

Interesting! I never knew such livestreaming classes existed! I haven't tried figure drawing yet, I wonder if I could pull it off, since I'd be an amateur at this.

eowyn87 - We are all here to help each other grow, no matter the experience or skill level. We can all learn from each other. It would be great to have you participate and post your results. I will start a new thread for this Fridays Live stream where we can all share our results afterwards. I encourage you to post.

Re: Draw This - Free Online Streaming Friday Evening Figure Drawing

Bill - At the moment I am not interested in drawing for animation. Something about how Vilppu approaches the figure clicked with me and I just jumped right in.

I have been able to find a couple of books by Bridgman including Bridgman's Constructive Anatomy. I will be working through them.

I really appreciate and value your input.

Thank you!

Thank you for your kind words! I might want to to that. I never knew such livestreams existed and I think it's very interesting. Speaking of livestreams, have you guys heard of the platform picarto.tv? It's also a website for creative livestreaming
