Watercolor Challenge June 2017 - Policeman and Woman in Mexico

It's terribly early to publish the challenge but we leave for a short holiday on Monday.

This picture is with kind permission of bumfuzzle (Ali and Pat) who are a family travelling the world together, first by VW campervan then a catamaran then at this time in a Travco bus conversion and today towing an airstream trailer. Pat is a wonderful photographer and operates his business online from the trailer. I have followed their blog for years. Look at the archives for their previous travels.

The photograph was taken in 2015 in San Miguel, Mexico and I thought it would make a nice challenge. I painted it in class over two weeks. No larger photo I'm afraid. 7x11 on Saunders Waterford 200lb rough, my standard paper.

Doug, the title of this thread on the main page says June 2015, which had me confused because I thought no one other than you had attempted it during the intervening two years.

Seems like you need that holiday! Thanks for posting the image.

Thanks for the heads up. I had noticed it and I thought I had already altered it.

Good for you! You got the policeman's head right, mine was too small

What size is this?

Well, here is my attempt on this challenge. Done in watercolors on w/c paper, 5 x 7 and added Pitt pen outline. Left out the window. Thank you for looking.

I think you have done very well at that size Lil, good proportions on the figures.

Here's my attempt. It's about 8x6 inches, smaller than I should have attempted for my patience and skill. Smile.

Thank you! I see I forgot to finish her legs. Finished now, but I won't repost. Just imagine them tan. I've discovered it's probably better to wait at least a day before posting a supposed finished painting.

Re: Watercolor Challenge June 2017 - Policeman and Woman in Mexico

I do not regularly do the challenges, but this time when I saw this picture for some (unknown) reason it just "clicked" to me. I did a small study (10x7 inches), with some composition changes, trying to make a better connection between the policeman and the lady, which resulted in some problems

All C&C are welcome. Thank you for looking.
