New Toys!

New addition to my watercolor tool kit! Pearl Ex powder pigments and Jaquard gum arabic powder to hand craft this light fast irridescent watercolor paint. These shimmering colors are gorgeous! I mix one part gum arabic powder to three parts pigment powder and add water with a dropper to make a thick shiny paste.

I used them immediately after I mixed them, though you can mix them with linseed oil or acrylic medium as well if you work in those mediums. I preferr watercolor and the pigments mixed as I have done can be left to dry as hard pan watercolors and used as any other hard pans would be used.

The paper this was painted on was Rough 100% French rag paper and it was done wet on wet on the upper half and dry brush on the lower mostly. The colors were Shimmer Violet and Sapphire Blue and these pigments are lightfast and brilliant! If you like gem tone colors in your artwork, I highly reccommend them! The dimension of the painting was roughly 4x6 inches. As always, Deb

Re: New Toys!

The colour, texture and flow of the colour is lovely. The original must be quite special with the additional movement from the shimmer, which is lost in the photo.

Well balanced colour in this supernatural landscape, Susan.

Re: New Toys!

Really lovely! I agreee, probably best appreciated in person, but still quite inspiring. Nice! BTW, where do you get these pigments?

Re: New Toys!

Amazon or Ebay or Jerry's artarama have Pearl Ex pigments. They are made by Jaquard corporation which is primarily a craft oriented organization. The pigments contain a high mica content as an additive that makes them shimmer.
