Horse Pyrography

I'm new to pyrography, but I'm really having a lot of fun with it. I made one last year with a walnut hollow versatool and I like it but it didn't give me the fine detail I wanted. Then I purchased a Razertip burner and it's amazing because it heats up and cools down extremely fast. I can also make hairlines with it. This video is the 3rd project I've made. I am currently making another one tonight and I will soon post another video. Let me know what you guys think. I used both burners for this but mainly the Razertip. I didn't find a section for pyrography but since it's a horse I posted it hear.

Beautiful fine detail in this. I enjoyed the video too, it was interesting to watch how you built the picture up.

Re: Horse Pyrography

Some wonderful shading!

I just got a new wood burning tool for Christmas. I'm so excited because with my soldering iron I was previously using, it took so long to heat up, and I'd have to let it fully cool before I could change tips.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

Re: Horse Pyrography

Gorgeous work. I was just about to post my own beginner pyro work and now I'm hesitating... lol. Seriously, great stuff.

Re: Horse Pyrography

Post it, I would like to see it. I'm struggling with making smooth shades and I would like to see the techniques others use.

Re: Horse Pyrography

I will post it (actually x-post as it's already up in the mixed media forum), but you won't get much help from me with the smooth shading you're after, haha. I have the Walnut Hollow Versa Tool. It's a step up from the single-temperature tool I had before. If I can master this one, I might invest in another one down the road.

I think your shading is quite beautiful, actually. I'd been watching videos and reading about the basics of Pyro, and was kind of hooked on the idea that texture and values had to be created through specific techniques (cross hatching, pointilism, etc). Your work just helped erase that idea from my mind, so thank you!

Re: Horse Pyrography

It's a Razertip, with 2 plugs for different pens. It came with a couple pen tips and a shading tip. Haven't had time to try it out yet, but I have borrowed my dad's several times (which is why he probably bought me my own!)
