Jayden and Vivian

My little nephew and niece. Oil on canvas sheet.

I've been wanting to paint them on one canvas for sometime now and although there are many areas that I wished I didn't paint so badly, I'm glad that I've tried. This is also my first attempt in painting two portraits on one canvas.

I find painting more than a portrait on one canvas very challenging and risky...

Re: Jayden and Vivian

You have painted a lovely portrait! Without a reference photo I would not say that you painted any part of it badly.

This is a certain style which I find very appealing but really difficult to do. I think you have it down.

Re: Jayden and Vivian

That is my experience as well- two portraits together is tricky.
You have done this very well and I see no part to improve!

Re: Jayden and Vivian

Thank you so much for the encouraging words MDerby, Bethany and budigart

I think i'll need to plan my drawings better before the painting starts in future. It's less challenging to repaint or modify as you paint for one portrait but for two that are close by each other...that's quite overwhelming for me

Re: Jayden and Vivian

nice! the sharp line of her hair next to his face.. maybe some review of edges there ? also, his proportions seem... I am not sure.. but take perhaps another look at them..

Re: Jayden and Vivian

Thank you so much Harry and Maria

Kevin, thank you so much for your advice and for pointing out the areas where I should re-look at. Really appreciate that. Yes, I too felt something is not right with Jayden's face/head. The only way I know how to 'lessen' the oddness is by lengthening his chin. I don't dare to touch the other parts...as I'm afraid the more i try to rectify, the more damage will be done. I really should be more careful during the drawing/sketching stage.

I'm not too sure how to 'soften' the edges of the hair near the face but I tried. Do share how I should do it.

The lighting is a bit different in this picture, but I've not touched anywhere else except for the chin and the hair near Jayden's nose:

Re: Jayden and Vivian

Thanks Carol Yes, agree re Kevin

Thanks Joan

I've added a few strokes on the chin again to indicate some 'form' there.
