Help. Photo crop

I have the photographer's permission to use this photo as reference for an upcoming art show/sale. Should I use the crop from the photo, or try to get the whole pony?

Re: Help. Photo crop

I'm a fan of palominos, ponies & horses so I'd try for the whole pony...
I used to do that same stuff on my horse (RIP) and he was a palomino too.

Re: Help. Photo crop

Boy is a vertical poll, nearly in the center. I'd make him off center, removing some of the background on either the left or right side.

Re: Help. Photo crop

I agree about cropping off some on the left side. I think it will create a more interesting picture. I recommend NOT cropping on the right side.

Re: Help. Photo crop

The focal point is the child. None of the background matters. You see enough of the pony to know what it is. I would crop tight on the front and back of the pony to make the image vertical. The intention is to add drama by focusing more on the child.

Re: Help. Photo crop

I definitely wouldn't crop any of the pony out. Not sure how to deal with the sides though sorry
