Tufted Titmouse

Hi Folks, here are three versions of the same doodle. As you can see I am still exploring Gouache. I am getting the feel for the paint on various surfaces. All are gouache on 140#Arches paper. One is on white gesso, one is on black gesso and the third is on untreated paper. The size is 4"x6".
C&C welcomed.
Regards Greg.

Very nice! I particularly like the third one. I've not used gouache- only watercolour.

Nice work, cute little bird. I tried a couple media recently, including Casein, which acts a lot like Gouache in many ways (if a bit firmer and more like oils). Really enjoy the first one a lot, though the colors seem a bit vibrant, though that could be the photo.

Thank you Penny and Delo. I appreciate the kind comments and feedback.
I am glad you like the work. I am still learning this stuff, so it is all fun and experiments.

I like all versions, it demonstrates the different ways you can use gouache as well as the difference the background colour makes (I don't use gouache but I like looking). I'm drawn to the third one, I think because it looks more watercoloury, which is what I like to use. The first one looks very painterly, with good texture and depth of colour. The second one has good contrasts.

Re: Tufted Titmouse

Thank you Kay for looking and commenting. As a Watercolor painter, I too prefer the third one. My goal with these little paintings is to see how far I can push the medium. I have a feeling that I have a long way to go.
Regards,
Greg.

Re: Tufted Titmouse

Nice versatile use of gouache. I found it a difficult medium. You handle it well in many styles.

I am also a bird watcher. Nice job with the Titmouse. Gary
