kaila's cards!

(Mod note: This thread is two threads combined. All posts are now arranged in chronological order which can sometimes be confusing but you're smart people, you'll figure it out. ~ vmrs (mod))

Hey there, I decided not to upload a separate thread each time I want to add a new card to discuss with you (comments, critiques, tips are always welcome! ) but rather make a single thread I will be updating over time. I hope that's okay!

Here are several older cards, as I've been painting these since joining my uni (~4 years by now). I call them ACEOs on my main deviantart gallery because, well, while I do create them mainly with the purpose of trading, I have nothing about selling them either if the chance arrives, and as somebody once said to me, "it's better to trade an ACEO than to sell an ATC."

Also, I am usually open for trades, either for cards (I collect animal-themed ones) or art supplies, so feel free to PM me if interested!

Great Cards! Several times a year there will be a group trade listed on this site. Keep watch because they fill up quick. I love doing them.

I already know about these, but thank you anyway! I may not participate very often, though, because I collect particular theme, animals, that was there not long ago. Also because of my uni/clinics, I may be able to do several cards per month, but it may be impossible for me to do nearly enough for all participants! (At least without the quality suffering considerably.) (In that matter, mini-challenges are more likely to have me as regular attendant )

Beautiful cards!

Great idea to start your own thread.

Re: kaila's cards!

Thank you Virginia- I wasn't sure about the rules about using a thread as personal gallery, so I'm glad you think it's okay!

And here's something different from me, older card made in acrylics. I don't use acrylics often, they destroy the brushes too much, require more space and preparation, and I feel like I always waste more paint than I use, since I paint small. Also, most of my acrylics ended up in trash- watercolors are more predictable for me, as weird as that may sound!

Re: kaila's cards!

What a lovely card. Tehe colors are so subtle.

I like acrylics, I use a stay wet palette, they usually last quite a long time in that. I like watercolor too, when the watercolor brushes get too bent out of shape they become acrylic brushes.

Smile kaila's minis and ACEO's

I decided to make a single "gallery-thread" in here also, rather than making new thread each time- let's see how that goes~

Here's a bunch of new ones, including lemur from animals' forum August challenge. These are mostly limited palette experiments.
PB35+PR101+PW?(4) for lemur,
PV19+PY43+PBk9+PW(?)4 for sparrow,
PB35+PB27+PW(?)4 for the winter tree,
Reeves Payne's grey for the dog,
PR108+PB35+PW(?)4 for the ram. (scanned way too badly).

Ram is referenced by RefLib photo by Lorna12, rest (except for lemur, obviously) are from memory/imagination.
As for the size, ram is 2,5" x 2,5" and the other ones are in scale to each other, the tree one being 2,5" tall.

cheers!

Re: kaila's minis!

Thank you both!
Dough, thanks for the tip! I'm planning to introduce myself over there with a several works, but I think my main "home" will stay here. Having the same threads over 3 forums (minis, animals, watercolors) seems rather abundant, although it would fit 90% of my works! Instead of creating identical threads, I'd prefer spending time by stalking the watercolor learning zone, for example.

Re: kaila's minis!

How gorgeous.

Even with the scan being a little off, that goat is really something. Love the composition of it.

The dog is so cute! beautiful work on the lemur, sparrow and tree as well.

I really like the pencil, so simple but so effective. Wonderful shading and color.

Can't wait to see more!

Re: kaila's cards!

Virginia: for acrylics I've been using mostly "watercolor-unusable" brushes and I used the stay-wet-palette of some sort as well- wet paper tissues. But still, it felt like I threw away more paint than I used, and although larger brushes did last quite well, the tiniest ones didn't handle it at all.

Anyway, since I managed to buy artists' quality watercolors, I don't think about acrylics at all! These new paints are pure love. Here are some more cards that are to be used as "hello" for other forums, rooster referenced by Luv2shoot and nuthatch by Dave Slaughter from RIL.

Re: kaila's cards!

Good paints do make a difference!

The eye of that rooster is so perfect, wonderful rendering of his red thingies too. (excuse my technical language )

That nuthatch is gorgeous! One of my favorite birds.

Really lovely images. I like them all. It is not easy to get the likeness to each animal as you have shown. well done .
