In Memory of Debra (DKB444)

This is a tribute to Debra (DKB444) who passed away this week. She was very active in the Watercolor Studio forum around 2012 to 2013 and loved painting with gouache. She was legally blind yet was able to see gouache (but not watercolor) well enough to work with it...I think the matte finish reflected the light better.

This was one of her favorites...she was taking out her trash one morning when a neighbor from a condo complex across the street started yelling and waving his arms. Her visual field was only about the size of what you'd see looking through a straw, so she hadn't noticed a huge bear at the dumpster. She was pretty shaken up, but said doing a painting of it helped her to process her fear and actually laugh about it.

While the blindness was caused from the surgery to remove a cancerous brain tumor (her sister, brother and mother died of brain cancer from exposure to agricultural chemicals), Debra also had Marfan's Syndrome which greatly increases the risk of a fatal dissection of the aorta and she had increasing heart problems. I know she would want me to tell all of you thanks for the comraderie and the helpful comments and instruction. She read the posts up until several weeks ago even though she was not well enough to participate.

What courage she had to find a way of painting despite her disability.
