I need a bit of pressure to continue further this serie, may be this thread will help me to start a third piece and more. Do you work with series ?

Re: Carousel rides

These are lovely!

Sometimes I do series, I just did a series for a card trade which was fun. I had to finish it of course because it was for a trade. I do find that if I'm not pushed sometimes I will start a series and get distracted by something else.

I hope you do finish your series, your style and subject is so so charming.

Re: Carousel rides

Very charming and great techniques in the execution. My vote is also to keep going.

Indeed I have done, and will continue to do, series that fit into one another. I usually find that once I get started (that being the key for me) it ends up an exciting challenge.

Happy painting. ~Lissa

Re: Carousel rides

I'll post a work in progress if you don't mind. First, an ugly sketch because you have to begin somewhere:

It is getting uglier: with a bit of photo manipulation you can move things around and add elements, for composition's sake:

how chaotic !

Re: Carousel rides

Exquisite work! I love this series. I encourage you to continue. When I get a bit bored or just hanker to do something different, I do, on the side. Then come back. Even though these pieces stand strongly on their own, I believe seeing a group of them would be even MORE impressive!! It would be a wonderful achievement as an artist. For the viewer it would be like finding a treasure trove of wonderful antique toys in the attic.
I never knew you could combine egg tempera and oil. Wow, lovely result.

Re: Carousel rides

Thank you for your patience, I've been multitasking (aka procrastinating) a lot lately.

See you soon !

Re: Carousel rides

...adding color with oil glazings. It still needs a lot of fine tuning before it is finished.

Re: Carousel rides

Coming together beautifully!
I like seeing your stages. Thanks for posting again.
We had a wonderful artist who used egg tempera quite a bit with fantastic results. His name is Ken Danby. http://www.kendanbyart.ca/paintings#content
