cat composition

the cat got it going on ... but does the photographer?

if one was to paint this, would you crop? straighten? make any changes?

[i'm not going to paint it, just found it on Facebook and it made me smile]

so how bout that comp ...

Honestly, I'm not sure. The cat sure is adorable. I'd be inclined to add a cat toy to the upper portion of the photo. Either way, this picture could make anyone smile.

This is an example of one of the few photos which can be translated into a strong painting! There's really only two shapes to compose and paint: the chair (secondary) and the cat (primary).

If only all photos and plein aire subjects were so well and strongly composed!

The asymmetry and imbalance help make the cat even more dominant in the picture plane.

I would crop the floor out from above the paw. I think that will get the eyes to the right upper third.

Don't cut off the limbs, and don't let them rest of the frame that way.

definitely has possibilities! that outstretched paw wants to take the eye right out of the painting though. someone suggested a cat toy... could use that as an eye stopper. maybe curl the tail back into the painting too, again to keep the viewing path in the painting.
