The Rules ?

Are there any? Other than 2.5" X 3.5" dimensions, that is.

Card materials? I like cut mat board and 1/16" plywood.

Medium - soft pastels.

What goes on the back? Anything? Player's stats?

Or are there any rules at all?

R/Mike

Re: The Rules ?

Beyond size, here the rules are flexible. Cause I made them. I mean..

Usually on the back I put

My name printed clearly
The date
The medium (and sometimes the support, if it's something unusual)
the name of the piece
If it's for a trade, I put the name of the trade.

Then I sign it.

I always at the very least make sure my name is clear on the back. My name is so long I only ever use vmrs as a signature on the front of my cards or paintings.

How about the rest of the world? I've cruised Etsy and eBay and see craft paper, canvas board and even some stretched canvas and wc paper, but is there any sort of standard for material?

I add title, printed name, date, mediums, location....then I sign it.

My backs are always sloppy with watercolor drips and what not. Does that matter?

Nope, none at all, use whatever you'd like!

Nope, not at all. Mine are always a bit messy too. Some people do use a sticker or label on the back with their names but of course eventually glue dries up and the label falls off. I always am sure to use archival ink.

Re: The Rules ?

Some people create Certificates of Authenticity for their ACEOs also. I always just created (anything goes, just stick to the size) then on back...

Title
Name
Date
Medium used
anything of interest
Signature

if a print, edition number etc. This can be a label you affix to the back, or a rubber stamp image you fill in or just write directly on the piece. Also most are put into a protective sleeve, usually the kind to put a baseball card in.

ACEO are made to sell

ATC (artist trading cards) are same size but meant for trading

ACEOs were originally created to sell (hence "Art Cards Editions and Originals")

Hope that helps.

Re: The Rules ?

This is an old thread but I'm glad i found it. I've just been naming the piece, dating it and signing my name. Now I'll start adding the surface painted on. And I'm so glad other people have paint drips and stuff on the back because I do, and I was wondering if I should do it over and try not to get paint on the back. I think with some paint on the back, people at least know they're not getting a print instead of an original.

Re: The Rules ?

Lately I've been utilizing foam core board w/ alcohol inks to great advantage. No frame or glass is needed, just display them on tiny easels around the studio.
