Artists

Do you have a favorite artist on the urban theme?

One artist who I have enjoyed for some time now is William Wray.

Another is Ken Auster who does some marvelous interiors, too.

Re: Artists

I really like William Wray's paintings too, and miss seeing them here at the WC Landscape Forum, where he used to post. And Hopper is another favorite of mine, as well as

Some other favorites are Edward Seago and Richard Diebenkorn's earlier figurative paintings.

I have a number of other favorites which I'll post once I can find my links to their works (they're not stored on my current device).

Re: Artists

Derek, thanks for the introduction to Dina Brodsky. I just spent a few minutes looking through her website. I like the following:

I enjoy many of the works by Ben Aronson

Re: Artists

Claude: Sheeler was amazing.
Jon: Brodsky is great. I've tried some works on frosted mylar. It is very hard to mount. nothing sticks to it, but the surface is really lovely to work on in oils or acrylics.
I'm going to check out "Ben".
Wow, just checked him out. thanks for the inspiration. He is a master.

Re: Artists

Derek, that painting you posted by Keefe is amazing - such a beatiful rendition of the subtle late afternoon reflections on the varied surfaces of urban buildings.I really like both Sheeler and Brodsky. I hadn't heard of Ken Auster. I relly like his painterly approach, beautiful brushwork and the way he nails the values.

But oh do I love Ben Aronson. He was one of the painters I was planning to post links to!

Thanks Jon, Colin, Derek, Claude!

Although her work isn't exclusively urban, another artist I like a lot is Sally Strand.

And the same for Margaret Dyer.

Re: Artists

My favorite plein air video is set in New York. It is by James Gurney.

Re: Artists

Some of you might remember Rob Adams (Treeshark) that formerly posted in the Plein air forum. He covers many subjects including several pen/ink sketches of urban scenes. Many of these are also plein air.

Derek, glad that you liked that. Gurney is a hoot!
