Autumn Barn - WIP

Hi! Its been a while since I've picked up the brushes and done some good ol'painting.

I've painted this one before in oils and thought I would give it a whirl in watercolours now. I don't do too many landscapes in watercolour so this is definitely a learning process. Any tips/hints/suggestions are more than welcomed!!

It is 10" x 8" on aquabord based on a photograph my brother took in rural Manitoba, Canada not too far from where my Mom grew up.

You seem to be doing fine. If you want to add texture try stippling with a worn bristle brush.

Re: Autumn Barn - WIP

I am LOVING your foliage! Wow. Eye-popping, with just enough greens/olives! Just carry on, and I'm betting more wows! I'll be interested on how you deal with the red (?) barn! And I almost "missed" that luscious grass area!

I would suggest using that wonderful foliage color on the left side, but only part way up, using the paler foliage already there as the "far away" background foliage.

Thanks Yorky and KiwiKhaki for the comments and suggestions. I will give the stippling a try!

A little further last night, mostly starting to figure out the reds for the barn. Its a little washed out here (sorry) will try to get a better picture later.

This is looking very nice. Your colours in the folliage of the trees look really nice the way you dropped in the colour. Your barn shape looks very interesting. Will be watching your progress.

Hi Egon,
I am not sure which part you are referring....

I've attached the photo that I'm working off of. I'm always up to make adjustments (if I can... )

I'm watching with interest, Madelaine, I like your colour blending in the foliage.

What an interesting barn photo. It looks like a giant hand picked it up, twisted it a bit, and set it down again...a challenge in perspective to draw and paint. I, too, am watching this WIP with great interest.

Madelaine! Wonderful! Just last night I was wondering how your barn was getting along...and now I see: quite beautifully! A lovely dark vs. light scene, making such good contrasts, and sparking the foliage to even greater beauty!

Re: Autumn Barn - WIP

Im not trying to take away from what you have done but composition wise I think it would have been better had you shown a larger side of the house as well as the front of the house . Even though you can't see it in the photograph you can approximate what it looks like . I like what you have done so far though keep it up .
