Charcoal - Fishing in the Basin
This is a charcoal I started a short while back (forgot to wip this one too). I've got about an hour into this, covered page in charcoal, moved it around to create a cloudy, late afternoon sky, then laid in the cypress trees and moss very quickly and loosely. Since I named it "Fishing in the Basin", I guess the next step will be to fiind the fishermen. Thanks for looking.

Re: Charcoal - Fishing in the Basin
Very observant Ken. This update I found a father / son team tearing up the sac-a-lait. I roughed them in and since the drawing is mainly a contrasty / silouette scene, I may not do too much more. I'll probably set the bass boat in the water a little better and work the reflections a bit more. What do y'all think. Comment / criticisms always appreciated.

Re: Charcoal - Fishing in the Basin
Well, I think I'm done. I worked more of the water reflections and added a little more darks to the distant shoreline. This was about 2 hours of drawing and reminiscing. The more of these I do, the more I want to do more. I keep remembering little things about when my dad and I want fishing in the basin when I was a kid. The smell of the swamp and the outboard motor, seeing who caught that first fish (usually me because dad would first paddle or troll to that perfect spot in the cypress trees, giving me a head start). Hard boiled eggs for breakfast and vienna sausages for lunch always tasted better in a fishing boat. Throwing the fish we'd catch in an old ice chest (we didn't have a live well) and calling it a day when it filled up. Man, those were good times. Any comments / criticisms are welcome.

Re: Charcoal - Fishing in the Basin
Very nice Ron, I like the effect of the charcoal and the reflections in the water.

Re: Charcoal - Fishing in the Basin
another great piece done by Ron!! WoW!!!
You were the reason I got some charcoal... now some day, I hope to try how it works. But somehow, I guess I thought they came with an automatic button. They have NOT produced any nice work, like you do, yet....
Bless you folks. IRma

Hey Irma, just grab a piece of charcoal, rub it around the drawing paper, and keep erasing the stuff that doesn't look like it belongs there. And VOILA, something will "pop".

Wow ... someone who knows how to spell!! It drives me nuts to see people say and spell it "walla" when only one year of French would solve the ignorance ....
Sigh ... my real pet peeve is the word "moot". It's become so twisted that it now is assumed to mean exactly the opposite of what it has traditionally been. As a noun, a moot is a gathering of people for the specific purpose of discussing the moot point. Tolkien's Ent Moot for instance. It does NOT mean insignificant or archaic. Sometimes I feel like a candle in the wind ... jousting at windmills ... sigh ...
Must be your cajun background ...
