With one eye closed
I'm having that wonderful eye surgery to remove cataracts and at the same time it will fix my nearsightedness and astigmatism. The trouble is that I had one eye done two weeks ago. The other will be done this week. So, I went to life drawing with one fixed eye and one poor eye. This means I have a clear, but yellower and slightly magnified image of the world on top of a very blurry image. I went to life drawing twice this way, and tried to draw with one eye closed. Oddly, it may have helped because using only one eye flattens the world. Here are the best of my drawings.
Most are on 18 x 24 inch smooth news print with conte. Gestures are one minute; poses are 10 or 20 minute.

Sandra, I thought about your comment concerning the fit between heads and bodies. Let me know if you think these are any better or not.
I have to say that I thought about Geoff as I was drawing. My troubles are temporary, but it would be very hard to know that my eyesight would continue to decline.
Any C&C is welcome.

Re: With one eye closed
Well. Pretty good goin with one eye Kate--
My favorite is no 7- there may be some proportion issues- not unlike I'm guilty of--but it all matters greatly !

Kate- you are to be admired for your determination to overcome your sight issues and draw anyway! Thanks for sharing these- I see marked improved proportions in 1,2,5,6,7.

Re: With one eye closed
Thank you both, Bethany and Carol. It's funny that proportions turn out better with 60 second gestures than many long poses. I should make use of that and start long poses with a gesture. The guy with the stop watch seems to be what I need!

I second
I enjoyed #3, #4, #7. The sense of forms and form shadows you are conveying really help set the stage. In #4 I like how you didn't dwell too much on the intricacies of the face and merely suggested shadows and forms.
I hope you are doing well with the second round of surgery. One of the things I love about this forum is the passion each one of you have for drawing, despite all odds. I think that, with such an inspiring company, even if I lost my hands, I think I'll still continue to draw, am sure. Bravo, Kate

Re: With one eye closed
Those are lovely strong gestures, Kate, and the longer timed pieces (especially #7) show great confidence. I think that you are very brave not only to go to LD with a sudden one eye loss but use it as a boost to others who may have various afflictions. On with the 1i-ed guys !!!

I agree Kate, 2, 4 and 7 particularly show good proportions.
I admire your fortitude.

Thanks for checking in, Kiran, Geoff, and Nathan. Thanks too for the comments. It helps to know which ones read true. Geoff, I just wish your troubles were temporary like mine.

Katie , Katie , Katie These Rock !!!!! ... Yes I think you are thinking way much more in these .... And way better In lots of more structured ways too.... And yes you should start your longer poses with just a gesture line ... It's how I've been taught in some of my longer studies with my teacher ... But it's also person thing I think .... wow I say lov em !!

Re: With one eye closed
Thanks much, Sandra and Mike. #7 seems to be a favorite, but I like 8 as well.
