En plein air
Hi All,
This is my first time posting a painting on here and my 3rd time painting in pastels en plein air. I started using pastels back in December under the instruction of Chris or (alleydoodle) as she is known on the forum. She great instructor by the way! I will post some studio pieces she helped me with in the next few days if this works...
I did these 2 quick sketches yesterday evening they are both on 5x7 Ampersand board. Comments and critiques are welcome.

Re: En plein air
Cindy, your piece has me thinking of pulling out the pastels again and painting some flowers or something. You've left a lot to the imagination with this one.

Re: En plein air
Yup, these look great! Excellent job with the grass and wildflowers, and you know I love the red roofs! The sunset glows, I love that sky. The lights on the land work well, excellent !
Great job Cindy, two paintings in one trip, mad painting skills!

Re: En plein air
hello
very fresh and immediate work !
for me , the texture of the surface works better in the water of the second piece
compared to the sky of the first piece .
i'm guessing that that surface was a dark value , and to get opaque in a short time needs certain brands of pastel ...
look forward to seeing more of your work

Re: En plein air
Welcome to WC, Cindy. I am glad you decided to join us and show us your work. I love your use of color and loose style. You have a great teacher. Chris has helped me from afar, but I would love to have her teach me in person.
Have fun painting. I hope you keep sharing with us.

Re: En plein air
These are great, Cindy. Lucky you to be under the direct tutelage of Chris. The second one reminds me of the fireflies I see in the evening. Can't wait to see more of your work.

Re: En plein air
Thanks Chris! We gotta get out there again for another plein air soon! Lets hope the weather cooperates this week.
Thanks Ed! I was working with Senelier's, i was working on a dark surface on the sky on the first one and did not do an underpainting at all and i only worked on that one for about 30 or 40 minutes. Then the sunset started getting nice so i changed positions and didn't go back in to work the sky on the 1st one after it got dark. I did however touch up the second piece a bit when I got home.
Thanks Doug, Donna, Deb, and Carol,
My style is usually very tight as I worked in graphite for a long time then I did a few pieces in color pencil before I found pastels. I consider myself very lucky to have Chris as an instructor and friend. She is so very talented! I actually saw her work this past fall at a local art group and loved it soooo much that I asked if she would gave me lessons. She has definately has helped me loosen up so much and see things in a more painterly way!

Re: En plein air
Great work. I admire you for doing plein air. I have a mental block after a bad experience during a painting holiday.
