Promotion and Sales through a Facebook fan page.

I've had a facebook page for my art and graphic design for 2-3 years now. I've sold a few pieces through the page even though it's primarily a place to just show off my work.

I'm curious who else has a facebook page for their artwork and what your experiences with it have been. What type of sales you may get from it and different ways that you market it to get new "fans" to like the page and follow you.

Also, if you have a page feel free to post a link to it here and we can link up.

mine is at http://www.facebook.com/shirardesign

Re: Promotion and Sales through a Facebook fan page.

I have a facebook page!

I can't particularly say it's successful, but my intention for it was just to get my name out there to my friends. I have had some people look through it and have told me they are interested in having me do some photography, or to purchase some photos, but no sales yet. I wanted to have a separate page because if I ever start to grow a bit, it keeps business and personal separate. I have some artists on facebook for the purpose of seeing their work and lessons, not to hear what their mother did on the weekend.

I have a FB page but I have no idea how to know if any sales resulted from it. No one's contacted me directly from it and said they wanted to buy a piece. But since I have links all over they could be getting redirected to my site and print gallery to make purchases.

I have a FB page, but I unfriend all my artist 'friends' who bombard me with their new work and or constant announcements. Once a King always a King, but once a week is enough!

yeah, I follow some artists on my personal facebook account and a few like to post 3-4 images all at the same time every single day or repost old ones over and over. It's cool work but it can get spammy at times.

Re: Promotion and Sales through a Facebook fan page.

Hi there,

I have a facebook page and I guess it's been reasonably successful...? I've had a couple of inquiries come in, and a couple of actual orders, but mostly just interest, which is good. I've worked in retail for years, and really anyone who is interested is always a potential customer. Everybody is, actually!

I use facebook ads sometimes. It's been my experience they are most successful Monday to Thursday if you are thinking of trying them. People do not seem to click "like" on weekends, strangely. There are also ways to get some free advertising credit, if you want to try. Search it...it's something through facebook marketplace, I think.

You can also run contests to get more fans, if you ante up a prize. Offerpop does your first contest of 2 weeks or less for free...

Anyway, all in all, I think it's a good way to drum up interest and keep yourself on people's radar, even if it doesn't immediately result in profits. Good for the ego, too, once you get a couple of devoted fans, or "superfans" as my sister in law calls them.

Re: Promotion and Sales through a Facebook fan page.

Having a FB page is not what it used to be.

FB, in an attempt to increase their earnings, has made it so that visibility to one's FB page is not good; FB wants page owners to pay to promote their FB pages...

I have made several sales from my FB page in the past.
Except for 2 sales, all of these sales were from customers of mine, who had purchased my art in the past...

I am in the process of re-evaluating my FB page as a resource for selling my artwork.

I sell a lot from my fb page and my real life friends and fam like to see my work, too.

Greg, I might have lost already, off to see if we are still "friends" or cut loose!

Whoo hooo! I haven't posted too much art, or else Greg just hasn't done housekeeping lately.

I try to post my art to my art FB page, and the rest of my stuff to my personal page.

No, not too much. Once a day I'll put up with, but 5 or 6 a day, no thanks...particularly when the same image comes up as 'Just Finished' every 6 or 8 weeks..

Re: Promotion and Sales through a Facebook fan page.

I've only been trying to sell my stuff since January and have had a few people buy through my fan page. However, they are real friends of mine vice just fb friends/fans. Still trying to figure out how to market myself, build a following, while also getting some paintings done that are worthy of selling.

And this won't let me post my Fb URL because it's my very first post on WC and evidently I'm not worthy yet!

Andrea, that's an anti-spam mechanism...otherwise we could get some real nasty links posted.
I think you can post links after three posts though.
