Giraffe 2 WIP

So this time I am not going to over work it but ask for C & C. I kept it light and need to finish up but I thought some of you would help me out because I am listening...thank you all. The original looks so much better than my print so I might have to sit at the computer and finish.

Hi Pam, this is coming along nicely. I think the main thing that you need to work more on is the values - the darker areas are not dark enough yet. Once you get more contrast going it should look really good.

One thing that might help your value trouble is to work from a B&W photo as Jayde provided. Color images can provide different information that can help or be distracting to graphite artists. Matching values in a B&W image will get your much closer to the realism you desire. When I draw I periodically put my drawing up next to the screen and make sure my values are as close as I can get them.

Re: Giraffe 2 WIP

Good idea with the black and white photo Jayde and Ken. I did it with the last giraffe pic.....guess I went to dark. I am trying to stay light purposely because of my tendency to go so dark. This time I took more time and did not blend at all, yet. I am really excited that I have more of a realistic look instead of so abstract......but we will see where my hand and brain take me, lol. I am really trying to change my mind thought and improve my art.

Finished giraffe. I found some carbon pencil, first time to use it. I still think that I over work the drawing or maybe still just need more practice.

Nice drawing! Now some more shades under the chin and the upper eyelids, just like you did with the ear.
