Welcome to What's on Your Easel for the month of August 2012!

If needed, please remember to place the butt icon.

Please post your oil paintings that you are currently working on or have just finished.

Everyone is welcome to post in this thread - Newbies and experts, as long as the work is in oil paint!

For the most part, this is a “show and tell” thread, if you would like more detailed help or critiques, the main oil forum would be the place to post and ask

Re: What's On Your Easel?....August 2012

I've been working on this one for a couple years or should say I started it a couple years ago... One day I'll finish it. I worked on the grisaille for a few hours tonight. Tomorrow I'll work on the bottom

Thanks. I did not like the original facial expressions and have been trying to mellow them out some.

I had a lot of left over grey paint, so I put it on another painting I haven't worked on in a while

Vic, I like this a lot!! the contrast is wonderful with the blossom just standing out in darkness. you have captured the delicacy as well.

Is it really August? Oh my! I looked at the end of July last night and I was blown away! Llawrence... That nude is stupendous. The other nudes... The couple is so interesting too. And Becca, your new portrait is warm and inviting. It is how I envision you... Not the bluish sad ones posted earlier. I am looking forward to seeing the comp,Erin os all these works is month!

Vic: your paintings are excellent, especially the flowers. Thanks for sharing the process.

Re: What's On Your Easel?....August 2012

nice work Vic,

August... don't want to think about it. It was the start of the year a few weeks ago, i swear!

Becca - That Avignon Orange paint looks very impressive. :-)

happy painting everyone. I was off out to paint but my husbands little baby kitten just cried jumped up on my lap and has gone to sleep. maybe i will trawl through WC until he wakes and then start my painting. I was hoping to paint for about 6 hours today... we will see..

*pokes kitten*

Hi Sarah, and thank you..the orange in my painting is largely due to remb perm red and cad yellow...I used the avignon to cool it a bit in places..

Re: What's On Your Easel?....August 2012

yummy colours.

Anyway i'm about to kick the kitten off the lap and go and paint. I want to get a couple of hours in on my new still life ( the pears) and a colour layer on my Renaissance portraits that i am doing. Then some touch up's here and there.

Since i started painting (November last year) i havn't finished more than three little paintings. I spend so much time starting new ones. I'm just starting to get round to the "finishing" of a few of them. Very exciting.

anyway off to paint have a nice day all.
Sarah

Re: What's On Your Easel?....August 2012

Thanks everyone

Sarah, I have the same problem! I love starting new paintings and over the past two years I've been collecting unfinished paintings in my garage. I think I am up to twenty. My wife said I can't paint a pirate ship mural in the living room until I finish all my paintings first (hint: she doesn't want the mural).

Re: What's On Your Easel?....August 2012

Well... I got done what i wanted today. This is now my August challenge. I want it finished!! I terrible at finishing things.

After i removed the baby kitten from my knee, i went out to the garage. I started the underlayers of the still life.

I know it still has a long way to go, but the improvement (and ease of painting) this compared to the first time i tried a still life about 6 months ago is huge.

Anyway still a bit more tidying of edges. I still havn't finished all the shadows on the cloth yet. (Pears not quite grounded yet)

??? The vase isn't exactly symmetrical. This is because the vase is NOT symmetrical. Does it look like i need to make it symmetrical??

anyway i hope you are all getting lots of painting done!

Sarah

Aw, Sarah...you don't look like you would kick a sweet little kitten who needed a loving lap ...

Vic, your wife loves you and just wants you to have the satisfaction of finishing them. And she wouldn't mind a mural of a pirate ship so long as it included gorgeous Johnny Depp, life-size. The world would run so smoothly if everyone thought like women.
