Re: ~~~Watering Hole~~~ August, 2012
Thanks Shirl!
We just got back from a week in California - was fun, but it's good to be home!
Got an email from an old customer from my Ohio days with whom I've kept in touch - at first I thought "oh no, something's wrong" because HE usually emails me, and this was from his wife, and her email address. Thankfully they are okay, but his 75th birthday is in January, and she wants to commission a painting! Just the kick in the pants I need to get the studio unpacked...
We're having guests over Labor Day weekend - 7 people!! Thankfully they are driving their motor home so we won't have to make sleeping arrangements for them, just provide the electricity for the coach.
I haven't checked last month's watering hole, so I hope everyone is happy and healthy! Once I get a little more settled, I'll check in more often, because I think of all of you frequently...
Take care, and be creative! 11 hugs!
Mary Lou

Re: ~~~Watering Hole~~~ August, 2012
Wakey wakey shaky shaky. Boo-hoo. That's what I always said to Pearl first thing in the morning when we got ready to get out of bed. I thought maybe I'd try it here in this thread to see whether we could get some action going.
Mary Lou, it's good to hear from you again. I'm glad you had a good time back in California.
I'm letting Mountain lion do the typing for me with their dictation feature, but I still don't have much to say. I'm back to doing some dog sitting again. Today Sparky and Xena are coming for the weekend. too bad there are any little smiley dog icons to insert.
Alright it's time for me to fix my breakfast before it gets to be lunch. Talk to you later bye

Re: ~~~Watering Hole~~~ August, 2012
Wow, this thread is dying on the vine... it's just you & me Shirl!
I just spent about 3 hours outside digging, raking, adding soil amendment, etc. and planted some native wildflower seeds. they grow. I think the only thing that really grows here is rock... The vacant lots (town owned, they call it a 'green belt') next to us have some really pretty orangey red wildflowers, so we dug up 3 of them and brought them to our garden
Last evening there was some kind of beetle in the bathroom on the shower curtain that could have knocked on the door before entering! It was huge - over 2 inches long! I don't think I've ever seen a bug that big unless it was in an exhibit!! I wish I'd taken a picture of it so I would know what kind it was, but too late...
We have lots on our agenda over the next few weeks - we're having company over Labor Day - 5 to 7 people coming for the weekend in their motor home - thank God, because we don't have the sleeping room, and only one bathroom . We're buying a sofa bed or something for the guest room, and having a new toilet installed, and the shower fixtures replaced. It needs to be done anyway, this just moved things up a little... And I have to get the studio unpacked to get started on that commission...
I'm learning that I need to get things done earlier in the day before it gets too hot, and then later in the evening when it cools off again... thankfully we're only looking at another month or two before cooler weather. Something to get used to for sure...
Anyway, I wanted to check in to let you know we're okay, and hope all of you 'regulars' are too... I think of you all the time...
11hugs! Hope all is well in your part of the world!

Re: ~~~Watering Hole~~~ August, 2012
Hi Mary Lou. Good to see you again so soon.
I did a short dog sitting job this weekend taking care of Sparky and Xena. They are really sweet little dogs. On the 14th I have to start taking care of my friend Judy's beagles while she and her husband go to San Antonio for some surgery on him. After that I might think about going on a little trip myself.
Nothing else is new here. It just keeps staying hot hot hot. I would die without air-conditioning.

Re: ~~~Watering Hole~~~ August, 2012
I gang, been having computer/modem/DSL/WC and GD issues..Something weird is going on with WC.. Had me really locked out today, but after 15 tries(only felt that way, they only give you five in a hour), checked my home e-mail and there sat my new log on password...sigh..But still don't know why I was locked out in the first place
Mary Lou, with the size of that bug, you could have put him to work around the house, or outside moving boulders
..Happy you are getting all settled in your new home, but boy, you sure sound like you have your hands full!!
..Are you two, still smoke free?
Hay Shirl, don't you live by the Sea? Now where else in the world would you want to go on a trip?
Waving too All ....Azure

Re: ~~~Watering Hole~~~ August, 2012
Hi All!
Good to see you popping in Azure, I've been thinking of you! Sorry you've been having all those issues; hope everything is looking brighter for you!
Yep, we are still smoke free! Was reading the local newspaper this morning, and they posted a couple of photos of kittens/adult cats - I think I'm in love, but I have to wait until after Labor Day....
DH went to an orthopedic surgeon the other day, and is finally going to get his shoulder fixed September 27th is the day.
Still trying to get things accomplished around here, but it's been so blasted hot again, can't get much done outside.
Here's a new one (for me): "It's so hot I saw two trees fighting over a dog".
Soooo, today I'll try to get more paintings on the walls instead of sitting on the floor in the guest room.
We just got a quote from a plumber to fix a few things - holy cow!! We need to rethink exactly what we want - it was waaaaaaaaay too expensive!
Time to get my rear in gear - waving to all - be creative
11 hugs,
ML

Re: ~~~Watering Hole~~~ August, 2012
Hi Azure, Mary Lou, anyone else who wakes up out there. I got my Sam's Club shopping done this morning. I need to do my regular grocery shopping tomorrow. I need to have enough stuff on hand to feed me while I'm dog sitting next week.
Two books I've been waiting for came to me electronically this morning so I'll have enough to read for the next few days. I'm working my way through the list of Faye Kellerman books. It's been so long since I read the first few I decided to just start over at the beginning. The joy of senior memory, a world of books you can read again.

Hey all of you! Hope you're doing well and surviving the ultra heated summer; so sick of triple digit days, decided to fly to Florida leaving Sunday and back Friday 17 August. If any problems on the forum, please contact Doug (Yorky) administrator and he will handle. Many thanks, stay out of trouble!

Re: ~~~Watering Hole~~~ August, 2012
Morning All, Yep, its officially HOT..Tripple digits all last week and more of the same for today
I had to giggle when I read Kay's comment about going to Florida to escape the heat, till I saw where she lives!.. Enjoy your trip Kay, and have fun playing by/in the water!!
Shirl, I just finished a book called Passage by Justin Cronin. Man can this guy write!! If you like post-apocalyptic supernatural fiction, might want to give this one a little peek..879 pages right up there with King's the Stand, McCammon's Swan Song, and McCarthy's, The Road... The next one(The Twelve) won't be out till Oct, but the first one leaves off in really good good spot...
..Then for more fun, murder and mayhem, picked up Tess Garrison's, Rizzoli and Isles(love that show), "The Silent Girl"
Mary Lou, Two tree's fighting over a dog!!... Yep, bout the same here What happend to hubbys shoulder?
My son ended up keeping one of the three kitten's they had and baby sitting the other two this week while their new Mommy's and Daddy's go on a trip...He said even tho the kittens had only been separated a few months...they were like a pack of wild marauding dogs...In to EVERYTHING!! ...Have fun looking for your new baby's when the time comes
Well, need to go for now..Take care everyone and Stay Cool..

Re: ~~~Watering Hole~~~ August, 2012
Hi everybody!
Just checking in as I haven't been around for a while... I've been away in my little caravan for quite a few trips! And off again this weekend to a folk festival, and away at the end of the month with my parents.... It's all go!
I sold one of my pics through that gallery site I joined! It won't make me rich, but it's a start! It's the Sunflowers one that I put on here when I was painting/creating it, bought by someone from London!
Hope you are all ok. I will be glad when all these trips are over and I can get back to painting...I have a lot of photos gathered now for that very purpose!

Re: ~~~Watering Hole~~~ August, 2012
Good to see you back here, JayJay! Sounds like you got a lot of good pix.
Congratulations on your sale!
Never got on the plane Sunday! Southwest having mechanical probs again on their older jets...after waiting 6 more hours I'd had enough, missed my Houston connection to Tampa, so instead of going home and coming back Monday, just asked for a refund, collected my bag and left. It was the one and ONLY time I'd had hubby drop me off. So his golf game was interrupted by me calling him to pick me up. Never been so irritated and disappointed! After a local mechanic could not fix the plane (hydraulic fluid leak), they planned to fly in two guys from Dallas at 4:30...last iPhone update I got was they were still not taken off at 6:30 pm for a 11:10 am flight...Grrrrrrr. Of course the artists waiting in Florida were very upset as I was Monday's demo. Checking airfare the next day, prices were more than doubled. So I've stayed at home all week.

Oh goodness, Kay! You could have done without all that trouble and fuss. What a shame.
