Is it wrathful to get external hard disk?

Hello members,
I am doing 3D animation and using Mac computer for my work. It hard disk capacity is 800 GB and I want to increase its memory. Is it wrathful to get external hard disk? Is there anyone who suggests me which is the best hard drive for mac.
Thanks

I use an external hard drive for my photographs, my photos tend to be a large file size so it's too much for my computer. I really like the external hard drive and it also has the convenience of being able to move from one computer to another easily.

I think I'd go for a 2nd Hard drive , a slightly cheaper option , if you only work from your own PC ,
I have a 160 gb Seagate External drive though smallish capacity by todays standards ,I'm juggling files onto DVD disks to make room so I'm going down the bigger 2nd drive route .
check out the prices on google , you'll get an extra 1 TG for the price of a similar external drive .

Re: Is it wrathful to get external hard disk?

i recently picked up a 2TB external hard drive (on sale for just under $70)
plug and play ... quick and easy to move things onto it ... done, no problems.

seems the most secure place to store photo's (i just really don't trust the longevity of disks).

can't grasp how it could possibly be 'wrathful' to get one

Verily, the God of Disks will bring his wrathful vengeance down upon you for using a removable hard drive instead of dvd's!

(It's TRUE-REALLY!!!) ;-)

Re: Is it wrathful to get external hard disk?

I have been using external hard drives for my business for over 10 years. We used to used LaCie drives but found over the years that the power supply for these go bad in a couple years. One of them totally died and we lost a lot of valuable info.

My advice is to concentrate on the quality of the drive and do backups. Hitachi drives are known to be solid. If your Mac has room for another drive you can do it internal, just make sure that your programs or computer are not set up to use it as additional memory since that can slow you down if you are working on large files.

If you decide to go with an external drive see if you can find one with a hitachi drive. If you are taking up a lot of space, I would recommend looking at an expandable NAS storage drive. I have a Synology NAS and we have 5 computers that use it over our network. I also have an older NAS on the network that backs up our new one once a week. That all depends on budget! Maybe find a used NAS on Ebay. I have used Buffalo Terastations and they are pretty good as long as you have a battery backup.

It's not wrathful.. it's smart to get your working files off your computer.

Re: Is it wrathful to get external hard disk?

one option is to use what's called an external enclosure. It is basically like a docking station that connects to your computer via USB and allows you to plug a standard internal hard drive into it.

You might save quite a bit with this approach, as internal hard drives are much cheaper than external hard drives, and once you've bought an external enclosure, you're set for a while.

If you consider your work to be important, then get several external drives from several manufacturers. Put a copy of your work on each. If you want your work to be safer, store some of the drives somewhere else, like at a friend's house far away.
