WDE 18 May- Two late ones

Messing around this afternoon instead of gardening - painting is much more fun.
I'm still trying to get to grips with landscapes with all those greens and tried a watercolour, then a gouache. I'm still deciding which I like best. The watercolour I tried a loose one with just my no 12 round sable and white knight pans on an old piece of arches paper. About 5 x 7 - 90 minutes.

Then the gouache - probably about 2 hours for this one - mainly with a flat brush.

Thanks again Mike for your great photos this week.

Good for you - the same scene in two media, both of which are lovely. I think I prefer the stronger colors of the gouache.

I like them both for two distinctly different reasons, Ros! I like the massing of values in the watercolor! And I like the higher chroma of the gouache.

Great job on both of them. I really like the gouache, maybe because I have been dabbling with it and can relate to it better. The trees are really well formed and the painting has very good depth. Way to go.

tough to choose just one... both have some unique qualities. the w/c is a little more abstract but lovely detail in the gouache one... i'm calling it a tie!

I totally agree with Mike! IF I had to choose I would pick the first, partial to watercolors and your loose style. Kurlie 8-)

Both are super, Ros, but agree with the others that your first one with its looser style is more painterly pleasing.
