Melting glass bottles

I make Glass beads with soft glass Efrette, CIM, Lauscha etc..... I recently had an inquiry from a eco- friendly company. They are wanting me to make glass beads and buttons from recycled glass. I know I can not mix glass so I won't do that, but can I melt bottles to make beads? Has anyone ever tried this?

Re: Melting glass bottles

Yes you can. As you mentioned- you cant mix the various kinds of glass (unless the coe is a match), but we have made beads out of bottle glass. Its not the easiest, and you will be limited with designs, colors, etc. We broke the bottles in to peices, and used the pieces like glass rods... good luck!
