Photoshop tutorial

Anybody have and good tutorials for touching up photos of painting in Photoshop? I see a lot of pictures of painting for sale and they all have smooth boarders and shadowing effects on them, but I don't know how to do this. The paintings colors are always very vibrant and corrected, but once again I can't find any good tutorials for this kind of work on photos of paintings. Any help would be great, thanks!

For colors-
At the top go to:
Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast
Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation
You'll probably use these the most.
Then mess around with anything under adjustment. You can even select certain areas, i.e. with the lasso tool and only modify areas selected.

For Shadows-
"Drop Shadow" is the key phrase, you can find on Google no problem.
Its a layer effect, on the layer window look for "fx" and click, then check drop shadow. Whatever is on that layer should have a shadow.

type in Photoshop (elements 8 or whatever you own)

read

look for specifically you want to do (borders, hue, saturation, etc)

lots of luck, some of the sites are gibberish and written by techies who are lost in their own world. I can rarely understand exactly what they mean, but I try.

How to do exactly what you want is too complicated for the small spaces available on WC

or spend $30 to $40 for a book and then your will have it for future reference

I do all of my color corrections through adjustment layers of curves and levels - the adjustment layer lets me mask off certain areas to have selective color fixes. Though I want to represent the real color of the work, there is a temptation to improve the value structure or hue to make the painting look better than it really is.

Hey audioblack,

As mentioned above, there are lots of free resources out on the internet.
My favourite is PSD Tutsplus,which has more tutorials than just the use of PhotoShop. Furthermore, there are lots of books on PhotoShop (for dummies etc), and you should be able to find some in your local library.

I have found several helpful tutorials in the YouTube.com site. I type in Photoshop edits and just search the video clips that come up. some go too fast and don't show you what they are "clicking" ...others are much better. Hope this helps. If you can't find any...let me know and I will search for some I liked.
