Hello,
It gives me great pleasure to send out information and applications for the third annual Wyoming Plein Air Painting event, which is fast growing and becoming an established event nationally on an increasing number of artists' Plein Air calendars. I hope you find all the information you need on the attached form and please remember that we give further comprehensive information about the area, places to stay and other relevant subjects once people are juried in. We will also have more information by then on the special rates for advertising in Southwest Art that we will be able to offer our artists for the event once they are juried in.
I can tell you now that we were given huge compliments last year when many artists told us that we held the best artists social events of any Plein Air anywhere! We have already arranged some which includes the icebreaker at the Plains Hotel, private clients who host parties for the artists, a wine evening at the wonderful historic Nagle Warren Mansion where the wine was free all evening to the artists,
http://www.naglewarrenmansion.com/ as well as a barbecue on the fabulous Wyoming Hereford Ranch where we arrange for artists to be able to spend time painting too. Local restaurants are doing special discounts for artists, the Plains Hotel are doing a limited block of rooms at special rates too - a deep discount at the same rate as the last two years, even though it is at the end of Frontier Days and the start of Sturgis Motorcycle Rally when they get a lot of people who pass through booking rooms. Cheyenne also now has the fabulous Suite 1901, a deco style cocktail bar and tapas restaurant offering special discounts for the event artists. Above Suite 1901 there are superb, modern suites at the boutique Hotel Frontier above, which is also offering the event artists deep discounts on accommodation at the same rate as the Plains. We are currently working on other specials and sponsorships too. We also have a limited number of host families, and there are camp sites and RV sites in the area as well. We do try to do all we can to make sure the artists have a good time here - the people of Cheyenne and Wyoming are very hospitable and love having you all here, and will stop and chat if they see you painting. We even had a couple of artists tell us that a woman saw them painting in Green River and stopped to talk to them and insisted that they use her annex go stay in, even though she was going away for the week!
For those that haven't been here to Cheyenne to paint before, we have some wonderful historic buildings and we even have permission for artists to paint inside the State Capitol Building. We also have historic trains and the botanical gardens amongst other places round town. Though it is a condition of entry that artists to paint in Cheyenne for at least 3 days, they are free to travel anywhere in Wyoming apart from that, to enjoy the wonderful wild beauty and big skies of the State.
If you do have any questions that govern whether you might apply, don't hesitate to email me, or call 307 778 0330. I hope you can use the attached Plein Air information/application or contact me if not and you'd like me to send you one..
This year we are honored to have John Encinias as our Plein Air judge. A Plein Air painter himself, you can find more information about him here:
