Olga Moore

Many WC old-timers will remember Olga. She hasn't been around for a while because she had been battling health problems. I was in touch with her up till last summer, and finally tried to contact her again. Her husband Gene sent me this message. I'm very sorry to have to pass this on.

I'm very sorry to be the bringer of sad news, but my dear Olga passed away on 27 August.

As I think you must know, about six years ago she developed a mysterious degenerative muscle condition, probably something auto-immune. It was diagnosed as dermatomyositis, and she was given two different treatments, both of which failed. About two years ago she began to feel much worse and thought at first it was a symptom of prednisone withdrawal, but it turned out to be a heart problem -- caused either by the same unknown thing, or possibly by a virus that took advantage of her weakened resistance due to steroids. She lost mobility and became increasingly short of breath. I'm glad I was able to spend lots of time with her, and that she died at home and without great pain. For about two years we have known that it would end badly, but we both thought we had more time -- which in retrospect is another thing to be thankful for. The girls and I are deeply glad that she found such joy in watercolors and kept painting as long as she could. Her paintings remain for us as a great and vivid testimony to her vision of the things and people she loved.

I'm sure that you all join me in sending condolences to Gene and their daughters.

Kate

Re: Olga Moore

Such sad news, we were only wondering about Olga a couple of days ago.

She was a warm and welcoming person and once a regular poster here.

My condolences go to Gene and her family on the loss of their loved one.

Re: Olga Moore

I knew Olga was ill but did not hear she had passed away. She was so special to me as she always had such wonderful critiques of my work and always would encourage and support me in my painting. She was always fun to have around the site and I would look forward to her posts of her family doings and of her wonderful Amsterdam surroundings. She loved her dear husband Gene and her girls and was very proud of them. Her wonderful gift of artistry will be missed as will her presence here on WetCanvas. Rest in Pease Dear Olga.

I am very saddened to read this. Olga was such an inspiration, and a lovely lovely person. I am proud to have had her for a friend, we shared many laughs together.

I have always loved her artwork, and am so pleased to read her family appreciate it to.

She lives on in all our hearts.

God love you Olga
