Sony DSC Hxx

I've been looking into a replacement for my old Canon and I'm currently considering the Sony DSC H10, 40 or 50. My primary beef with my old Canon was the shutter lag, and the DSC Hxxs are described as having a low lag. I was hoping for something more than a point & shoot though, and I'm not sure these are.

Does anyone have any experience with these cameras? How'd you like them? Any better alternatives? I'm a hobby clicker, but I'm interested in a camera that's maybe a step above the point & shoot so I can move along a little.
