What is Museum Cartoning or Crating?

I have noticed that art contests for juried exhibits for paintings often require "museum cartoning" or "museum crating". What comprises these requirements? Do they strictly mean wooden crates, or would reusable cardboard containers be adequate?

A purpose made construction solely to protect exibits whilst in transit.

Yes it will be wooden crates,probably to house at least several paintings?
They will not be held responsible if the exibits get damaged in tranist if they are poorly protected.
