Re: Recommend A Book
This isn't jsut an acrylic book but useful for all media (oil, acrylic, watercolour, gouache, soft pastel, ink and pencil)
Color Mixing Bible
By Ian Sidaway
Quarto Publishing plcSorry can't find an ISBN number anywhere.
The book gives a basic palette across the top of each page and then shows what it would look like when mixed with other colours (not just from the basic palette), shown running down the page, in three blocks according to how much of the basic palette colour is added.
There are also chapters on colour theory, pigments, Science of colour, and choosing a palette.
I have found this extremely useful as so many of the colours I am not even familiar with and this has helped me in choosing new colours to add to my own palette.

Re: Recommend A Book
Following on from the Ian Sidaway book I have a little book by him called "The Acrylic Painter's Pocket Palette" published by B.T. Batsford Ltd 1994 ISBN 0-7134-7736-9. This is the spiral bound hard back version but I think it is still available in softcover.
It's similar in layout to the other 'pocket palette' books - it gives visual advice on how to create numerous colours from a basic range and also some hints and tips on various techniques. I like it because it helps me with mixing colours.

a book of some interest - Charlie's Mum
I recently obtained a book on acrylic painting that has what appears to be a firm understanding of the process along with some great definitions about the process, pigments, tools, etc. Those just starting out would greatly appreciate the information in here and those with some experience would certainly enjoy the deeper understanding.
Here is a link to the Amazon offering: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw... &Go.y=0&Go=Go
I think it an OK book.
Title: Acrylic Painting Layer by Layer
author: Ian Sidaway
ISBN 1-56010-905X

Re: a book of some interest
Thanks Howard for sharing this. It is always good know what reference material/books offer the best information. BTW, I'm loving these little tidbits of information you are sharing. For those of us that haven't been painting long or are new, it is especially helpful.

Re: a book of some interest
Dang - looks like that 'layer by layer' approach is fueling a whole passle of books, judging from that Amazon spot......

Re: Books of Interest to Acrylic Painters (and others).
The Artist’s Complete Health and Safety Guide . Amazon.com carries it, and there are reviews on their site.
