A Figure and an Interior Scene

I often bring paints to life drawing, even though the poses are short. This one is in gouache, on Strathmore cp watercolor paper:
Sketch of a Dancer
about 9x5x7"

This one is from yesterday. My husband went out to run errands and came home with a gorgeous bouquet of flowers for me. I set them into a bunch of small vases to do a series of paintings. I hope the flowers last long enough to get a few done! This is the first...
Flowers in the Living Room
7x5" (matted to 10x8"), Gouache on Stonehenge grey paper (100% rag)

I can't help but wonder why the dancer has no face.

The shadows in the flower painting confuse me. For the frame it appears that the light comes from above, but for the small red vase is lit straight on, and the tall vase shadow doesn't really match the object.

Re: A Figure and an Interior Scene

Thank you, Linda, Ralph and Jon.

David, the dancer has no face because it was a quick pose in open studio with a model. I ran out of time, and could only capture the overall figure.

The shadows in the flower painting are indeed confusing. There were multiple light sources from windows all across the room, all indirect and from different angles, plus reflected light from the white ceiling and from another wall angled off to the side. The whole time I was painting, I couldn't figure out why the shadow of the squiggly vase was so narrow and a strange shape, but in the end, I decided to just paint what I saw. The red vase highlight is a little off. I'll move it up a bit.
