Mystery Painting

Hello Everyone,

I wonder if anyone here can identify this painting and the artist who painted it.

It has been in my wife's family since the 1940's, when her father brought it over from France. It is a small, unsigned oil painting on canvas. We have tried researching it but unsuccessfully. A professional researcher here thinks it is a student work from around the early1900's, perhaps copying another more established artist's work.

If you can identify it, I hope you can enlighten us. It would be so nice to know the name of the artist.

Thank you.

Re: Mystery Painting

I suggest you repost this on Art History Discussions because there are people there who know about every artist who ever lived, or so it seems.

Nice painting, by the way.

Thank you for responding Lawrence. Yes, I have previously placed it in the art history discussions, but nobody there has been able to name the artist, either.

Re: Mystery Painting

I would say your professional researcher is right on target.
